AIBU?
To see pics of Mariah Carey's new necklace all over media and think that life is just un-fucking-fair

I don't like Mariah Carey to start with. I possibly hate James Packer even more.
Their alliance, played all over the media, makes me feel sick.
I just hate the inequality in life. A bauble to MC could save so many lives if it were converted to something good.

I'm not bothered about the very rich having baubles and trinkets.
However, I AM bothered about the very rich avoiding paying taxes because then, people in lower socioeconomic groups can't get decent healthcare and educations.
If Ms Carey and her boyfriend pay their fair share of tax in America, then I genuinely wish her enjoyment of her necklace.

Life is unfair and I think that is the hardest lesson we all have to learn. Try not to brood on it or itwill drive you insane!
However you could consider that she may have a fabulous necklace but does she have a happy marriage? And her children are bound to be messed up with all of that wealth. Think I will stick with my Claires accessories necklace.

She already donates a lot www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/mariah-carey
I don't begrudge her of a necklace paid for by money she's earned and is taxed on.

YABU. Nothing wrong with someone being able to buy themselves something like that, good for them if they are able to. Just because someone's wealthy now doesn't mean they always were, and begrudging them their money because you want them to be as poor and obviously miserable as you seem to be OP is just mean spirited.

Ask yourself what Jesus would have said.
In fact, what he said, when someone protested at Mary Magdalen wasting money on fancy oil (or something) when it could have been given to the poor, was "The poor will always be with us".
Not that I'm remotely religious but it's a fact of life that there will always be people who are rich, moderately well off, getting by and poor.
Plus I expect Mariah Carey buying things and employing an entourage keeps others in work.

Ask yourself what Jesus would have said.
Jesus also tells wealthy would-be followers to sell everything they have and give the money to the poor.
I'm not remotely religious either, but it seems to me that Jesus's rather radical vision of a fairer social structure has been misinterpreted by successive generations of wealthy and powerful clergy, who would rather maintain the status quo than challenge the injustices in the world, thus ensuring that poverty is perceived as something that will always exist.

Okay, so she could have donated the money to charity, but she bought (or had bought for her) the necklace. Surely by buying the necklace the jeweller made money, and he/she has staff who need paying, and those staff in turn use the money to pay rent and buy food and so on.
