to use a shower puff?

I wash mine in the machine after every use but still I hear people saying they are disgusting/unhygienic and can't understand people using them. What is so wrong with them or is it just that some people leave the same one in shower for months on end?

Grin no I suppose it wouldn't but thanks for being on the ball and giving me a good laugh

Mintyy · 25/07/2015 19:25

I use lovely bars of soap and my hands to wash with. I never have to fret about what might be on a shower puff .

It would be sacrilege to be davidbowiesarse

Sorry Sparkling missed that - they are as I suspected (bit disappointed they are not actually a truly puffy item that I haven't seen before, - as puffy really suggests softness rather than harshness)

BodyShop ones are the best.

Some unravel when I've washed them (in a net laundry bag) and I get yards of nettingy stuff ,,sigh

Janeymoo50 · 25/07/2015 20:17

Much prefer them to face cloths but personally prefer my hands.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 25/07/2015 21:13

I have never washed one but I've never had one smell or look manky. I probably get a years use out of one! Now wondering if I should change them (or wash them) more frequently. They are hung up nicely in the shower though, so dry well between uses.

Wonder if you can microwave them to sterilise - like you can dish sponges/cloths. What do people think, will they hold onto the water enough and withstand the heat?

Its like when Monica Geller wished that she had a tiny vacuum cleaner to clean her small vacuum cleaner
But where would that ever end?! Surely she then had to get an even smaller one to clean the first small one?

I heart this thread.

Went off to have a bath (on my own so having luxurious indulgent day) and discovered a scruffer unravelling at the side of the bath. So I binned it. Thanks MN for making my day more hygienic Grin

Still have another but I had good look to see if it was manky in any way. It was not.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 25/07/2015 21:17

I use dhs to clean the bath with and hang it back over the tap

SeenSheen · 25/07/2015 22:23

When did flannels become face cloths?

squoosh · 25/07/2015 22:34

I think they're only called flannels in the UK. I've always called them face cloths.

Tinkypoooooooo · 25/07/2015 22:57

Do you mean a flannel?
I don't understand how you can wash a body puff it would unravel

Tinkypoooooooo · 25/07/2015 22:59

Sheen that's what I was thinking

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2015 22:59

No unravelling here, cheap ones possibly do.

Happfeet2911 · 26/07/2015 00:11

Why the hell would you wash something that has been washed??

Sparklingbrook · 26/07/2015 00:12

Because if they never dry out they go a bit manky Happ.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 26/07/2015 11:29

I love my flannels. Do wash after every use though.

annielouise · 26/07/2015 12:13

Mine is 17 years old. It was delivered as a freebee by Dove with a sachet of shower gel. I've been quite proud of it in recent years as only one bit is unravelling. Told a few friends how long it's lasted. It's never smelled. I thought soaping up and rinsing, shaking it and hanging up would be enough. I've just noticed recently (past 2 weeks) though it's going black inside (I'm only using it on my flipflops right now). I'll treat myself to a new one. Seems like the more modern ones don't last as long.

WaggleBee · 26/07/2015 14:42

17 years? Shock

I do wash flannels after every use. I use them with an oil balm to cleanse my face so they need to be fresh and clean each time. Have about a dozen of them.

I'm sure my shower doofer would unravel.

annielouise · 26/07/2015 15:03

I know Waggle! I didn't realise it was that long It has been washed in the washing machine before and I've gone through long periods of never using it at all but I've started again. I'm getting a new one tomorrow Smile

ThePinkOcelot · 26/07/2015 15:13

I love mine. I used to suffer from these irritating little spots on the back of the top of my arm. Scrubbing my arms with a puff has got rid of them!

WaggleBee · 26/07/2015 15:52

Annie mine drops apart after a while so I'm secretly impressed. Grin

CakeNinja · 26/07/2015 16:03

I've just gone into the bathroom to inspect my shower puff and its DISAPPEARED Shock Confused

WaggleBee · 27/07/2015 19:02

Inspected my shower doofer and it is very clean. Only about a month or so old though.
