To be scared of who will buy this puppy?

There's a Facebook page I joined where people in my city sell unwanted items such as old prams, clothes, cots etc. I joined as I'm having a clear out and thought there may be some things worth selling.

I checked the page today as I often do just to be nosey, and a young male had posted on the page saying he was selling his 6 week old bulldog puppy. The caption was "bulldog puppy £350 or swaps" with a picture of the puppy on his lap.

AIBU for thinking this is completely irresponsible? Maybe I'm getting too much into this but why would you sell a puppy if you're willing to just swap it for another?

I personally don't agree with selling puppies on the page because you just don't know the type of person they are going to. He seemed pretty desperate to get rid of it and I'm worried that someone will buy it who maybe can't look after it properly.

If I was ever in the position to sell a puppy id be in no rush I'd want to know exactly where it was going and to whom.

I've also been told that pups shouldn't be away from their mothers til at least 7 weeks old. My dogs were bought at a slightly older age but I'm not an expert on when pups should leave their mothers.

maybe

Swaps? Who on earth swaps a puppy? For what? I'd be worried too, I hate seeing animals on FB selling pages :(

hellsbellsmelons · 24/07/2015 15:55

It's not the best way to go about it but you only have to look on Gumtree to see it's a very common occurrence.

chocolatechip123 · 24/07/2015 15:56

I wonder what he will swapsies it for?

GraysAnalogy · 24/07/2015 15:59

Can you post a link? I'd like to post this to the Bulldog rescue

Frillsandspills · 24/07/2015 15:59

I can't image why he'd want to swap. I need a new kettle so maybe my kingcharles spaniel has to go.

I'll try and find it on the page! May take a lot of scrolling as people post all the time but I'll have another look!

Brilliant idea. grays Smile

6 weeks is way too young to leave the mum and litter. I suppose someone willing to do swapsies wouldn't really care about that though.

GraysAnalogy · 24/07/2015 16:01

I'm a bulldog owner. No-one should rush into buying any dog, but bulldogs in particular need specialist care. The health issues they have are absolutely unreal.

Selling at such a low price is also opening the doors for that dog to be used for breeding.

SuburbanRhonda · 24/07/2015 16:02

I would like an iPad air2 so maybe DH has to go Grin

GraysAnalogy · 24/07/2015 16:03

My dog chewed my slippers up last night, I will swap him for some new ones. Size 4 plz.

maninawomansworld · 24/07/2015 16:04

I believe that the sale of living creatures should be restricted to authorized people such as reputable breeders, animal shelters, vets etc. Anyone wanting to get rid of a dog should be made take it to a shelter or back to the breeder they bought it from originally. Penalties for non compliance should be very stiff (huge fines or even short prison terms for serious / repeat offenders).
The general public shouldn't be allowed to trade animals between themselves.

Frillsandspills · 24/07/2015 16:06

I've just taken another look at the page I think he may have deleted it, I hope it's because somebody told him it was irresponsible and not because someone is rushing into buying it Sad or perhaps admin removed it.

I suspect he's got it from, or is, a backyard breeder. I know I shouldn't wear my judgy pants but the room had plaster and coming off the walls and he seemed too young to be any sort of expert in breeding puppies, and if he got it from somewhere else that would mean the pup was taking from its bother even younger.

Thaanks for looking for it anyway. It makes me so angry and sad this :(

snowglobemouse · 24/07/2015 16:09

wtf does what his walls look like have to do with it Hmm

Frillsandspills · 24/07/2015 16:14

Nothing, the room just didn't look in a good condition to me and as he was young i thought maybe he was selling as he was desperate for money or something. I don't think anyone should be in such a hurry to sell a dog so perhaps he really needed it.
