To want to call HR on why next (final) job interview is in September?

Hi,

I'm interviewing for a management level position at a new firm. Strategical recruitment for them, I'm a specialist in my field and they need to get that sorted.

Over that last 3 months I had:

  • 1 Skype interview with HR
  • 2 interviews in one day with HR Director and potential N+1
  • 1 interview with potential N+2 (where I learned he was seeing me and another person)
  • a personality test (on a webpage)

Now the HR director has sent me an email asking if I'm ok with doing the personality testy debriefing in person at the beginning of September, adding it'll be an opportunity to meet briefly again with potential N+2.

AIBU to find it weird and to want to call to get more info?

Either they've chosen me but with the holidays it's better to start salary negotiations in September (nothing gets done in August here)?
Or they're not sure about me and they prefer to let things settle a bit?
Or they've made an offer to the other person but want to keep me in the side just in case?

WWYD and what would you say if you were calling? (Maybe emailing is less an issue?)

Thank you.

I'd imagine that September is just the next time that everyone is free - it's almost the end of July and August tends to be busy for holidays and time off.

I wouldn't presume that they've chosen you or anyone else from just this. Either is possible, but if they've made a decision, I think they'd be unlikely to waste further time doing final interviews and personality tests.

I'd probably just confirm whether I was available and, if the opportunity arose, ask about when they were hoping to have made a final decision.

Thank you.
It's just that waiting 6 weeks to debrief a personality test and have a "brief" meeting (not interview) seems weird to me.

Agree with the previous poster that probably one or more key people in this recruitment decision will be on holiday.

Yes, probably someone involved in the process has either a long holiday or a trip somewhere - do you have any holidays booked? They may not have made a decision yet, I certainly wouldn't assume that they have selected you from what they have said so far (sorry!).

Do you think they are hoping to attract more candidates for the post?

Lonecatwithkitten · 22/07/2015 15:51

There could be all kinds of reasons. Bereavement, holidays, illness.

Dynomite · 22/07/2015 15:56

I think there are other candidates they are considering, they wouldn't make you wait otherwise. And I agree that some of the people making the decision are off on holiday.
I agree it's a bit odd, I haven't come across such a long recruitment process since I was applying for graduate positions.
