Shouldn't we expect just a little bit more of the Duchess of Cambridge.

Never turned up for one single memorial service for the armed forces, but there at Center Court, Wimbledon, rubbing shoulders with a load of celebs, and entertaining Brad and Angelina Pitt at Kensington Palace. Is this what her royal life boils down to.

So basically there isn't any improvement. Anyone in the public eye will be ripped to pieces on social media sites. They have to expect it.

Therefore Kate just has to carry on, knowing that whatever she does some people won't like it. She can however rest assured that anyone voted in wouldn't fare any better and that the huge population who didn't vote for them because they didn't want them would just be told to 'put up and shut up' because they had the vote and they were stuck, until the next election where they had every chance of failing again.

Simpler to vote for the continuation of the monarchy and then those who lost could just be told 'tough- that is democracy'! At this present moment, all the data , that you are so keen on, says the monarchy would win.

It would- and then the dissenters could keep quiet- accepting a democratic vote.
Anyway I shall hide the thread- I can't believe that I have wasted days on this!

Kate will have to just carry on as she sees fit. Whatever she does she can't please all and some she can never, ever, please - simply by the fact she exists in the position she is in! However there is no one at all that William could have married who would have done any better!

sweetgrape · 29/07/2015 11:59

But we have an institution whose only interest is being the best ambassadors for Britian GrinA Britain that will keep them in the style they have grown accustomed to. Their only interest is preserving their lavish lifestyle at all costs. They certainly dont give a damn about the man in the street.

Wow you're very easily pleased then. Good grief.

Mehit it would seem that you expect the royal family to be unaccountable. Just keep throwing obscene money at them and let them do as they please. You wouldnt have that attitude about an elected government so why on earth do you think the royals should escape scrutiny. They take a lot from this country, they have a duty to give something back. If they dont want to they can step down. Nobodys forcing them.

One last comment before I hide it.
No one could do any better because the problem is that they exist.
If he chose someone who was the exact opposite of all the criticisms about Kate it would still be wrong.

I think the media already follow politicians etc round commenting on their and their partner's clothes, appearance, hairstyle etc. etc. (sadly).

Littleen · 29/07/2015 17:46

yabu and a bit mean too! Leave her alone, what's she ever do to you! :P

fancyanotherfez · 29/07/2015 17:54

The Royal Family serve us. That was the whole point of the Magna Carta and the English Civil War! They are not a nice family going about their own business in private. Their power and mere existence is at our behest. We have a right to question whether they are giving us value for money.

fishboneschokus · 29/07/2015 18:01

I see them as a guilty secret soap opera.
Kate is behaving impeccably.
We need more of the York girls to hop around on the sidebar of shame.

I think that historians will pinpoint fergie as a significant factor of the monarchy.

Fergie, a significant factor in the downfall of the monarch.

I wonder how many gifts George got from complete strangers This is one of the things I just don't get. Why,when so many children are living in poverty and going to bed hungry would you choose to take the time and effort to buy a gift for a royal baby who won't even get to see it. So fawning and sycophantic.

You are naive if you think that a Head of state would escape the media dwelling on clothes, children, events etc.
So astounded by that statement I had to return!

Mehitabel6 · 29/07/2015 19:06

I don't get sending presents either, but then I don't get a lot of things like flowers at the scene of a death. You have to allow for free choice- however bizarre that free choice happens to be.

Of course it would be a media circus with a President - look back in history at JFK and his wife Jackie - they were treated like royalty and their lives dissected, her clothes (she was literally a clothes horse), his affairs with a string of women etc and this was all before the days of social media. The scrutiny of them and their children was intense. I had relatives who lived in the US at that time, it was relentless. You are deluded Ego if you think it would be different to the RF.

Replace Prince Andrew or Pippa with kids of a President, siblings, parents etc... no different. Marilyn Monroe singing "Happy Birthday Mr President" - nauseating, yet you ask what makes us think there would be media scrutiny in this country?

Roussette · 29/07/2015 19:29

Not obsessed with wives of the PM? You're having a laugh surely. Cherie couldn't move without some ghastly pic of her being published. Then there was Carole Caplin. Then there was the flat in Bristol fiasco. Then there was her son getting bladdered in Picadilly Circus. And this was with a RF to focus on. Without them it would be times 10.
