Shouldn't we expect just a little bit more of the Duchess of Cambridge.

Never turned up for one single memorial service for the armed forces, but there at Center Court, Wimbledon, rubbing shoulders with a load of celebs, and entertaining Brad and Angelina Pitt at Kensington Palace. Is this what her royal life boils down to.

She is the mother of two young children. She can do more when they are older.

Ego - I like your angle on this! Smile

A bit different - but just as valid.

Mehitabel6 · 26/07/2015 19:04

It puts a whole new slant on things- if I did all this 'data' it would make my view of discussions very different!
However I think I prefer my way of being open minded, take everyone on their merits and not being surprised to find that they are nothing like 'data' would want to pigeonhole them.

Inkanta · 26/07/2015 19:17

Mehitabel6

'I dispute the fact that some one aged 60+ is more likely to think something'

Well they are! There are polls and statistics out there on folk's view on the Monarchy. Those in favour of monarchy are generally over 60s. If it's a fact it's not stereotyping at all.

'I don't understand why women are so bitchy about other women.'

Mehitabel6

Yes I agree with you on that. Do not understand why it's OK to get so personal and mean about Kate Middleton.

Mehitabel6 · 26/07/2015 19:31

Exactly Ego- you never know. I may become a republican. I would hate then to be told 'you can't do that, it doesn't fit the data'.

Is there 'data' as to who is likely to pass to the dark side? Grin

Rouseete No I don't have inside knowledge of the royals doing charitable acts behind the scenes. Why would I. It's called an educated guess. The royals will do what it takes to preserve the monarchy. If the duchess of Cambridge was going round doing charitable acts for those charities that someone listed you can safely bet that they would be used to advantage by the palace PR. She puts her name to the charities and turns up (if they're lucky) to the odd event. There's no evidence to suggest otherwise. It's a racing certainty she's not doing much else.
I don't understand why women are so bitchy about other women
Does that mean that all women should be totally unaccountable purely because they're women. Or is criticism of a woman automatically seen as bitchy no matter how deserved. Confused

Roussette · 27/07/2015 17:30

Well.... I'll take an educated guess she does far far more behind the scenes than you imagine. There you go, we're quits! I think I'm right, and you think you're right. If there was evidence to suggest your scenario it wouldn't be 'behind the scenes' would it?

Roussette · 27/07/2015 17:31

'Deserved' in your eyes sweetgrape. Not deserved in everyone's eyes. There are two sides to a difference of opinion and sometimes a middle ground too.

bruffin · 27/07/2015 18:18

Its a very uneducated guess. I only ever saw one event our Royal was at in the newspapers. A ball we had made OK magazine. But day to day stuff never got reported.

sweetgrape · 27/07/2015 20:50

Call me cynical but I don't for one minute think the duchess of Cambridge is going round doing acts of charity that we don't know about. She barely manages official engagements.

Viviennemary · 27/07/2015 20:57

Her job is to be and not to do. IMHO. She must toe the royal line. If she does that then all will be well. If she doesn't well ........ But I think she will.

BoffinMum · 27/07/2015 21:04

If it wasn't for the media giving them publicity the royal family would have more or less ceased to exist by now, I reckon.

mindfulandgrateful · 27/07/2015 21:58

She is a nursing mother give her a break.

mindfulandgrateful · 27/07/2015 22:03

Anyway, I can't take your post seriously because I remember you started a thread about feeling hurt for your dog , because a lady was irritated by your dog , as dog licked her in the park, and you felt sorry for your dog saying it had a hurt look on its face.

sweetgrape · 27/07/2015 22:16

Wow that was a lighthearted thread, did you not realise that?

Is am afraid that contrary to 'data' I don't read DM and my New Year resolution was not even to click on links to it. (I am sure that 'data' would put me as a DM reader- being a female over 60)

unless data says that 100% of people in your demographic are DM-readers, then you are not contrary to data.

I have continually said that I am not particularly a monarchist, but I think it the best system at the moment.

why? it's incredibly damaging to society's view of privilege, the rich and the poor. It's entirely non-meritorious (literally, things are determined by who's womb you occupied). I can't, in fact, think of a worse system.

Inkanta · 28/07/2015 05:11

These days I'm less a monarchist and I tend to hope we become a republic and classless society eventually. Don't see the point of singling out Kate though and you can't exactly call her idle.

The Uk has a monarchy. She married William. She's raising their children and heirs. And she takes part in other public duties which she actually does very well. In fact she's a natural at it and always looks lovely.

Mehitabel6 · 28/07/2015 06:52

If you tell me something that would be better then I might change my mind. I can't see that an elected president is any better- they can generally be a lot worse and you can be sure that whoever they are people on MN would be highly critical. Especially if it was a woman, or they were the wife/partner of the president. For some reason what they looked like would be of prime importance. They would be trouble for doing too much and getting 'above themselves' or doing too little and just getting the 'perks'. They would be resented if they came from a privileged background but 'social climbers' if they came from a lowly background. In short they would have Kate's problem so can't see why they would want it- except they would be able to get out after a few years.

I was objecting to data for that very reason!
