To think MN is getting nastier?

So far this week we've had giving birth referred to as 'calving' (in the context of women having children while young). Someone loved that one so much they immediately commented on what a great expression it was and repeated it.

We've had someone propose that Prince Phillip should be 'humanely destroyed'. swiftly followed up by a similar suggestion about taking him out to a barn or a shed or some such and shooting him.

We've had a thread about the death of a convicted murdered where several posters queued up to tell us they were, smiling or "laughing gleefully" or simply to post "lol" as a one word comment. (Okay she was a vicious killer and will not be much missed, but really?)

Add to all of that the Budget threads where in the midst of people worrying and calculating the cut to their household budget, other people came to gloat and make helpful observations such as "If you can't afford DC, don't have them."

MN didn't used to be nasty. Vigorous, challenging etc; But not nasty.

What's going on around here?

i agree biwi it's important (imo) to know who you're talking to if you spend alot of time here.

SitOnMyFacebook · 17/07/2015 22:00

Have never yet worn a pair of ski boots that couldn't have had profitable second jobs as instruments of medieval torture.

Every photo taken of me skiing shows me looking pissed off. Usually because I am.

DoeEyedNear · 17/07/2015 22:02

I've never been skiing. It looks like it might hurt

ToastedOrFresh · 17/07/2015 22:03

Well I would rather stick pins in my eyes than go ski ing again. It's freezing, all the clothes make you look fat and you have to exercise at high altitude every day.

Quite. So I never open skiing threads smile.

I agree. Skiing is boring, scary and hard work. I sit in the café drinking hot chocolate and reading the paper whilst my husband freezes his butt off on the slopes !

It's very interesting people watching too. I've noticed that the outside seating areas at the café are full from around 10am to when the café closes. I've seen people sitting there with their ski gear on for hour after hour because they are as bored with it as their companions are !

It's not like the outside seating area is rarely used outside of lunchtime because people would rather be on the slopes.

Very interesting IMO.

However, those that go skiing will do as they please.

Anyway, back on topic.

SitOnMyFacebook · 17/07/2015 22:04

It does hurt. Your feet hurt. Your thighs and arse ache. All ski gear makes you look fat. The cold air makes you constantly want to pee.

SitOnMyFacebook · 17/07/2015 22:07

Toasted, I go for the epic hot chocolates and outdoor hot tubs.

DH actually goes for the skiing. I occasional wave at him as he zips past whatever cafe I have parked myself in.

mrsruffallo · 17/07/2015 22:11

skiing clique!

mrsruffallo · 17/07/2015 22:12

I really fancy some cheese on toast

DoeEyedNear · 17/07/2015 22:17

Ooh yes with onion on it

I'm rather hungry now

SitOnMyFacebook · 17/07/2015 22:18

I absolutely refuse to be in a skiing clique as I fucking hate it [stamps foot]

However a cheese on toast clique sounds much more my thing.

The nearest I got to skiing was sitting on a tea tray and hurtling down a hill behind the local health centre.

Happy days.

bodenbiscuit · 17/07/2015 22:21

I've been on MN since 2004. It has always been very cutting - in the end I think the fact that there is a certain acerbic style which is the epitome of MN is the reason for its success.

Over the years I've had some very nasty comments directed at me but it is so very big these days that you just have to ignore it.

countryandchickens · 17/07/2015 22:22

worra I must ask why Grin

I do heart mumsnet. Where else can you talk about your itchy bum on a Friday night?

SitOnMyFacebook · 17/07/2015 22:22

You may borrow it off me if you like perpendicular [gracious]

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2015 22:25

It was fun country and it worked in all seasons, so we didn't have to wait for snow Grin

countryandchickens · 17/07/2015 22:27

Oh, I see - for some reason the health centre confused me and I thought it was doctors orders or something

Blush

I am a fool

mrsruffallo · 17/07/2015 22:28

Mmm davidstow cheddar with nandos hot sauce. It is AMAZING

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2015 22:29

Oh I see, no.

It was the only place with a hill Grin

The fracture clinic came in handy though I must admit...

SitOnMyFacebook · 17/07/2015 22:30

Bung another slice under the grill.for me mrsruffulo, there's a good girl.

CruCru · 17/07/2015 22:31

Yes, this is a nice thread.

Skiing is AWESOME. The worst bit is having to carry your skis to the main resort lift. You can eat and drink anything you like after a good day's skiing. I wish I'd learnt when I was younger.

I don't like cheese on toast. I don't know why.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2015 22:31

I now have a mental image of the doctor from the health centre, handing out trays to sick people and advising them to slide down the hill Grin Grin

countryandchickens · 17/07/2015 22:33

Sounds like my sort of clinic!

SitOnMyFacebook · 17/07/2015 22:34

Haven't you heard if ski in/ski out hotels cru?

Anyway you can't like skiing and not like cheese on toast. Too diversive. You're either in one clique or the other. So choose alright [no pressure]

plus3 · 17/07/2015 22:34

I like recognising people names
I am not a pain in the arse
I am not part of a clique - I don't actually think they even exist on MN
Have been here a very long time - just need to take it all with a pinch of salt....
