To think MN is getting nastier?

So far this week we've had giving birth referred to as 'calving' (in the context of women having children while young). Someone loved that one so much they immediately commented on what a great expression it was and repeated it.

We've had someone propose that Prince Phillip should be 'humanely destroyed'. swiftly followed up by a similar suggestion about taking him out to a barn or a shed or some such and shooting him.

We've had a thread about the death of a convicted murdered where several posters queued up to tell us they were, smiling or "laughing gleefully" or simply to post "lol" as a one word comment. (Okay she was a vicious killer and will not be much missed, but really?)

Add to all of that the Budget threads where in the midst of people worrying and calculating the cut to their household budget, other people came to gloat and make helpful observations such as "If you can't afford DC, don't have them."

MN didn't used to be nasty. Vigorous, challenging etc; But not nasty.

What's going on around here?

Crown [hug] (I asked MNHQ for an emoticon for that) [cries with laughter] (it annoys me a bit the emoticon which looks most like a laugh is a grin) [queen] [bollocks] [bitch] [heart] [kiss]

sorry, distracted from the point..

Fatmomma99 · 17/07/2015 18:07

oooo.

Well, 1 out of 8 ain't bad..

MaggieJoyBlunt · 17/07/2015 18:08

The cats in our road were caught sloshed in a smashed bottle of scotch.

Two had lapped up broken glass in their enthusiasm. So it figures. Furry little drunkards.

ha it could be a whole range of 'feminine Hygiene' products - how delightful - 'Honeymoon Fresh - for the aroma your fandango dreams of

ghostyslovesheep · 17/07/2015 18:10

My lovely Billy cat has a brain tumour which means he staggers around like a drunk - it's quiet funny sad to watch

MaggieJoyBlunt · 17/07/2015 18:12

Oh poor Billy Sad

Honeymoon fresh Grin

What a great advert jingle that could be.

Sadly mine is more like battle ground scarred.

At least on Jeremy the cats were able to narrow down the potential fathers. Unlike the humans. And they washed their fur before filming.

I know im late to the party but I totally agree - I recently commented on another thread that I wish people would stop and consider that there's a person on the other end of the computer

The bitches roll up and make spiteful comments about things that the poster has asked for no comment on

And it's the same certain group of posters who get to threads most times and set the tone, and can never do anything wrong to each other. One poster in particular who is "mumsnet royalty" and can cut down an op in a few words.

I name change frequently but on a previous name had a run in one of them because she was drunk and accused me of something by misreading my post. Which wasn't true. But I remember it and her name and think "you are such a dickhead" whenever she posts.

DonkeyOaty · 17/07/2015 18:23

Awww at Billy ghosty.

DoeEyedNear · 17/07/2015 18:24

Is Billy the father to all these kittens?

HelenaDove · 17/07/2015 18:25

YY Hex i often wonder how many of the nastier posters have a drink problem I suspect its quite a high number.

ghostyslovesheep · 17/07/2015 18:26

he's happy enough - just wobbly and headbutty - he has a lovely life and is not in pain

he just has to remember not to run down stairs or he falls over at the bottom - but he forgets when he's hungry

ghostyslovesheep · 17/07/2015 18:27

Billy was fixed when he was tiny but his mother was a madam - no idea who his father is - she's shameless (my friend took her to be spayed - she got out of the house ONCE in 6 months - she was up the duff)

YouTheCat · 17/07/2015 18:33

Aye and they'll be claiming all the benefits and drinking all the milk. The feline bastards! Grin

Friend of mine has a big black cat who has chased 3 dogs in the last two weeks. Hes basically the hoodie of the cat world.

MissJoMarch · 17/07/2015 18:44

If two c sections = honeymoon fresh

Does 2 large ventouse / forceps births = dogging dirty?

emotionsecho · 17/07/2015 18:44

Just lately there seems to be a proliferation of two types of poster:

Type 1 - unless you agree wholeheartedly with their opinion and bow down to their wisdom and righteousness you are a cunt and how dare you post on this forum.

Type 2 - No-one is allowed to be happy, no thread can be lighthearted because of 'x" disaster in the world/other people having difficult lives, etc., etc., and all threads/posters who dare to try and have fun and laugh must be dragged into miserable despondency.

It's tedious, boring and yes there is an underlying current of nastiness prevalent on MN at the moment. Some posters are desperately trying to hold back the tide against it but the numbers are dwindling.

julesldn · 17/07/2015 18:45

Honeymoon fresh and dogging dirty = literally crying ????????????????????

ghostyslovesheep · 17/07/2015 18:47

hahaha I love that Grin I had my honey fresh turned dogging dirty by my middle child (Ventouse) - it's like a small land mine went off up there

Namechangenell · 17/07/2015 18:55

It's all become so formulaic.

OP says they've had a run in with their mum/dad/gran. Cue 10,000 posters piling in and calling them every name under the sun because they'd give anything to see their own deceased relative again. Now, that's all well and good and no one's disputing it, it's just not relevant to what the OP asked...

DoeEyedNear · 17/07/2015 19:10

I have rabbits. They're great at keeping your garden cat free. All the neighbourhood cats are scared of them!

Does that mean rabbits are technically the mafia?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 17/07/2015 19:22

I agree that it does seem to have got stupider. And less thoughtful with it. Telling people what they should have done 6 months ago (you shouldn't have got pg) has always been around but the "How can you be NC? It's your mum!" responses are so dim. The I love my kids and never shout posts. The UKIP twattery. I don't know, but it seems less well informed than it used to.

LovelyFriend · 17/07/2015 19:23

oh Worra thanks for reminding me

Torch + Wine + Bear

( o )( o )

(((Star)))

= good Friday night in Grin

LovelyFriend · 17/07/2015 19:25

people saying "why did you get PG/have baby" etc are my number one pet peeve about threads on MN. Ignorant fuckers.
