What the actual fuck?! I thought I had at least until early September before the panic and cold sweats set in Hmm - two big bastards in less than half hour - what is going on?! One mashed with a slipper (the other can wait til DH gets in)

Sorry ghosty and anyone else who I scared :(

ThePhoenixRising · 17/07/2015 10:29

notasinglefuck you are not alone. I am terrified of crane flies. Better now than I was. But only because I have been forces to get used to them as DH will happily leave the window open and the light on so they all come inside.

DizziDoll · 17/07/2015 10:35

DH found a HUGE bog black spider on the inside of DD's mosquito net. Luckily she didn't see.
I've had them fall on me in the shower. Horrid!

ghostyslovesheep · 17/07/2015 10:35

don't worry they amended it - so now I close my eyes and hit the down key so I avoid them!

I'm such a wuss - funny things is I like the little ones and I try very hard to be calm about the big ones but I can't look at pictures of them at all

Whatabout · 17/07/2015 10:36

Yesterday I got my two year old up and spotted a gigantic house spider on the floor. I was praying he didn't spot it as I know he'd have picked it up. I would have seriously considered shitting him in the rom with it until he had done whatever he wanted with it. I managed to encourage him out of his room with his clothes and shut the door. I'd forgotten his socks so he went to nursery in sandals. I was not re-entering the lair.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 17/07/2015 10:39

Yes!!! I was about to start the exact same thread! DH left the bath in last night and this morning there were 2 big spiders floating in it. They must have crawled up the overflow pipe. Ugh.

Then ten minutes later a small fast spider ran over my foot in the hall. And I picked my wellies up in the porch and another made a break for the wall. And I hoovered 2 more after that as well!

cashewnutty · 17/07/2015 10:39

I love spiders. I get loads in the house as i live in the country. Some lurk in the same place for ages and i speak to them when i pass. It also saddens me if i have to break their beautiful webs.

If my DD or DH want a spider caught then it is up to me. I never kill them, i just release them outside. I don't kill anything except wasps because they are evil stingy fuckers

islandmummy · 17/07/2015 10:40

I found a big one in the bath earlier this week, so foolishly, naively, ignorantly, when I was cleaning the kids' rooms I got busy with the vacuum cleaner and evicted all the spindly ones which I'd noticed a while ago but don't bother me as much. HAD I KNOWN they were my saviours, I would have left them, arghh!! Now I'm expecting more big ones and only have myself to blame.... :-(

Seffina · 17/07/2015 11:50

Yes! I said this to somebody last week and they looked all Confused at me but I'm glad someone else has noticed that the spiders are moving in again.

I've never actually been bothered by spindly ones, just house spiders. I am now even less bothered by them since reading this thread, and I may make an effort to talk to the spindly one that's been living in a cupboard in my kitchen for the 3 years since we moved in. I might even name it.

ghostyslovesheep · 17/07/2015 11:54

this!

ArtyBat · 17/07/2015 11:57

Is he missing a leg?! He is not a pretty spider.

Yes he is, that's how I knew it was the same one - doesn't stop the thing from galloping around my house though! I put a thimble at the side of the glass jar, to give an idea of size.
I'm sorry if my pic upset people, it was thoughtless of me. Flowers for you all.

I don't like spiders, but I can deal with them as long as I don't have to touch them.

ghostyslovesheep · 17/07/2015 12:00

I'm not upset more urrgghhhhhhh bleewwww Grin

HeisenbergSaysHello · 17/07/2015 12:04

There was one peeping out of a hole near my front door the other day, i was hoovering at the time, it made a run for it, was bloody massive! So i hoovered it up with the nozzle and then had to knock the hoover off and put it outside incase it crawled out Blush

There was also a medium sized one in the car. I was driving along and just spotted it dangling from my rear view mirror, had pull over, get an empty crisp packet and squash it. If it had been any bigger the car would have to be abandoned. They fucking terrify me

ShesAStar · 17/07/2015 12:20

Did someone say they had a spider fall in them in the shower?? How horrific!

Yesterday I got out of the bath, took my towel from the radiator and shook it open and out fell a massive black house spider. It fell to the floor and ran - I will never shake out a towel without fear again!

ApprenticeViper · 17/07/2015 12:23

Oh God no, it can't be THAT time of year already Shock Sad

I have a very spidery house and I hate the bastard things with a passion, to the point where someone at work caught one that was on the office floor and was jokingly threatening to throw it at me...until I was sick in a bin in front of him.

I didn't know about the spindly ones eating the house ones. I have a couple of spindly ones in my kitchen cupboards (I have to get DP to get whatever I need out of the cupboard if I see one when I open the cupboard door) , so might get DP to transfer them to the living room, as that's where we tend to get the most house spiders.

As an aside, why are they called house spiders? They aren't supposed to live in houses, I don't want them in my house, so why aren't they called outside-as-far-the-fuck-away-from-me-as-possible spiders?

ChwatFeechers · 17/07/2015 12:24

I'd let a thousand spiders run over my naked body rather than a moth come within 30 yards of me.

THE scariest thing known to man.

Seffina · 17/07/2015 12:26

The weather got very warm and then it's cooled down and generally gone a bit shit. I don't actually remember seeing a huge amount of them last autumn, when September was really warm.

HeisenbergSaysHello · 17/07/2015 12:41

I catch moths in my hand, and crane flies. But if a spider comes anywhere near me i will scream blue murder.

My hair keeps tickling my face and this threads making me paranoid!

InQuiteAPickle · 17/07/2015 12:45

It's always Spider season in this house. They're around all the time! They breed in the front door grid thingy and lay eggs. Good job I'm not scared . DD1 tries to catch them and keep them as pets as we won't let her have a dog!

ollieplimsoles · 17/07/2015 13:06

Woohoo! Pics! :D

Im just going to dowse myself in alloy cleaner and weep...

toomanypillows · 17/07/2015 13:18

There is a #selfieswithaspider hashtag on twitter. Basically, when you spot one, you take a selfie with it and post it :)
(I'm only telling you this, so the next bit makes sense)

I'm quite prolific with this game - I stumbled upon one at head height the other night when I woke up and went to the loo.
I took a selfie with it (as you do) and showed it to my 5 year old DS in the morning, who freaked out as he recognised that I was, in fact, standing outside his bedroom door with said spider.
"Where did it go, Mummy? Is it in my room?" etc
So, I just wanted to say I do understand that it is a real phobia, and I hope you all don't suffer too much during Spiddy Season.

I have no fear of spiders at all, and yet DS panics like mad, so it's not learned behaviour!

Ironfloor · 17/07/2015 13:25

OMFG I googled 'Aragon' and screamd bloody murder at the IMAGE!!!!

FluffyPingPong · 17/07/2015 13:30

I was minding my own business hoovering the other day when THIS BEAST came running at me and 500mph!! I don't mind house-spiders but that thing made me scream and probably give my 2yo a spider phobia Blush

Is it spider season already?! [MNHQ warning - spider pics!]
ChwatFeechers · 17/07/2015 13:35
