We were away for a wedding recently and stayed in a B&B. They asked what we would like for our cooked breakfast the next morning. I don't eat sausages or bacon so I just said I'd like eggs, mushrooms tomatoes and beans. I got a beans??? Hmm So what do you think Mners? Weird or a nice addition to a cooked breakfast? :)

I think beans are quite the norm in the UK for breakfast, not so much the rest of the world though.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 15/07/2015 11:18

I am having home done baked beans and a couple of sausages and coffee for breakfast now. Thanks for inspiration!

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/07/2015 11:22

Beans have NO place in a cooked breakfast. Absolutely no bloody place.

Vom-fucking-tastic.

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/07/2015 11:23

Definitely an English thing.

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/07/2015 11:25

Sausages, rashers, fried egg, white pudding, black pudding. Mountain of buttered toast. Possibly some grilled tomatoes.

That is a the correct formation for a cooked breakfast.

ArseForElbow · 15/07/2015 11:28

I'm in Scotland and love beans with my cooked breakfast, no hash browns or mushrooms though, I would swap the hash brown with a potato scone.

ArseForElbow · 15/07/2015 11:28

oh and I need tomatoes...

highlighta · 15/07/2015 11:34

Yeah, well lets not get onto white/black puddings now.......

Confused

Just, why??

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/07/2015 11:40

Because they're the food of the fucking Gods.

bumbleymummy · 15/07/2015 11:43

Definite nooooo to pudding from me!

Re beans. I had a hotel cooked breakfast on Sunday. Very nice it was too. Except when I went up to the buffet thing they'd run out of beans.

"No problem!" I thought to myself. "After all, the baked bean is something of a Johnny-come-lately to the breakfast spread of the English. It'll be fine without."

How wrong I was! It was...well...how can I say this? Dry!

I scuttled back up to the buffet as soon as I saw the beans appear.

Of course, this moist role could have been payed by a tinned tomato. But I realise that's a whole other can of beans!

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/07/2015 11:43

Well you're pro-beans so you clearly have malfunctioning taste buds.

GooodMythicalMorning · 15/07/2015 11:44

Fried eggs for me. Sometimes I like eggy bread instead of fried or toast.

keepitsimple0 · 15/07/2015 13:50

it wouldn't be an English breakfast then would it? (though it applies to a NI, Scots, RoI fry too).

two birds...

god forbid english breakfast changes to something healthy and tasty.

Katedotness1963 · 15/07/2015 14:12

No beans. And absolutely never tinned tomatoes. I was shocked to watch Coronation Street and see Sally serve up a fry up with tinned toms. You'd think she'd know better...Wink

No eggs of any kind. No hash browns. No puddings. No kidneys. No fried bread. No haggis. No fried pancake.

You know. When I think about it. I don't really like a cooked breakfast.

ASettlerOfCatan · 15/07/2015 14:16

IKEA have the staple cooked breakfast down. Sausage, bacon, egg, hash browns, beans, tomato. Optional toast and mushrooms.

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/07/2015 14:19

You lost me at 'Ikea'.

Olddear · 15/07/2015 14:21

no beans in a full Scottish breakfast. Definitely an 'english' thing!

CremeEggThief · 15/07/2015 14:29

Perfectly mainstream addition, but I personally only like beans with fried eggs. I can't understand how people like scrambled eggs and baked beans together Confused. I also don't like mushrooms touching the beans.

Scrambled eggs, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes are a lovely combination, especially with potato waffles and Quorn sausages.

ghostyslovesheep · 15/07/2015 14:34

for me it's

poached egg
veggie sausage
mushrooms
beans
potato cake
grilled toms

bumbleymummy · 15/07/2015 15:07

Kate - what do you actually have then? :)

Ghosty - grilled tomatoes aren't squishy enough for my liking.

Pengweng · 15/07/2015 15:27

Poached eggs.

I love a bit of square sausage too! I'd forgotten about those. Must move home immediately or at least to Scotland. lol

SiobhanSharpe · 15/07/2015 15:35

Sausage, egg, chips and beans = dinner or tea, if you must, or if you live somewhat north of London Proper cooked breakfast = one's choice of egg, bacon, sausages, black/white pudding, mushrooms, FRIED BREAD, grilled tomatoes optional and preferably only if home-grown. Toast, croissant etc to follow.

This reflects my view.

UncertainSmile · 15/07/2015 16:42

The wanky foodies need to be kept away from a cooked breakfast; it's already hard enough to find a proper chip butty in a pub, without poncy changes to make a full English/Scottish/Irish 'healthy'.
