To think people name their dogs the name they'd have liked if they'd had more DC?

I keep seeing it among people at the school gates.....or just people I know. "Oh we've called the new Puppy Ella."

"The new dog is called Lola/Max/Poppy..."

It's odd and annoying as I've now met two families who;se dogs share names with my kids! My kids names are not in the above selection

I prefer human names for animals. Shows they're part of the family.
A different question tho is what you do when you have kids if you have ALREADY used up all your good names on pets! (including deceased ones).
We have used up about 10 names on cats in our family.

Dawndonnaagain · 11/07/2015 12:09

One of mine is named after Paracelsus (his real name) and the other after an Iceland story. So no, not what I'd have called any of my dc.

Dawndonnaagain · 11/07/2015 12:10

Icelandic. Sorry!

pud1 · 11/07/2015 12:22

My dog is called Darren. I thought it was out if fashion enough to be used for a pet

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 11/07/2015 12:32

I agree about it being annoying. Two of my DCs have 'dogs' names' apparently, i.e. human names that lots of people call their dog and the first thing anyone would say when they were first introduced to the DCs as babies was "oh my mum has a dog called xx!"

Well thanks, I really needed to know that. One lady, a friend of XH, came to visit shortlly after DD was born and introduced her new puppy with the same name as DD Angry

I actually got so fed up with it that I nearly changed DD's name at about age 1, however I stuck with it and she suits it really, she runs around a lot, has boundless energy and bites her brother when she doesn't get her own way. Give a dog a bad name...

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 11/07/2015 12:33

I know that DBro's dog is called the girl's name that was destined for their DS2 had he been a girl.

redcaryellowcar · 11/07/2015 12:35

I've found the opposite to be true, it seems we named our first born the ideal name for a Labrador! Often heard called across across a park!

OurDearLeader · 11/07/2015 12:35

I had a mate with a dog called Knickers. It was funny when he walked round the park going 'Down Knickers, get down!'

Janeymoo50 · 11/07/2015 12:37

Guilty as charged I'm afraid.....my cat is called Maddie and if I re home another she will be. Matilda. Albeit Maddie came with that name but I liked it.

TheWernethWife · 11/07/2015 12:44

We have a rescued cat called Matilda. She'd been dumped after being bred from time and time again, she's very tiny but keeps the two large boy cats in their place.

Yarp · 11/07/2015 12:45

I think that children have dog names and dog's have children names

Jasper/ Simon

Yarp · 11/07/2015 12:46

dogs

someonestolemynick · 11/07/2015 13:17

Apart from spot all our cats have human names but not names I'd call DC. We have a Hector, Richard Parker, Jemima

scrumpkin · 11/07/2015 13:19

I did this. Always loved the name Leo. Never thought I'd have any more, let alone a boy after 4 DD. 3 Years later I had DS and his name was on the dog! had to rethink...

Vastra · 11/07/2015 13:24

My mum knows a couple with a dog the same name as me. They got the dog after finding out they couldn't have DC and used the name they had picked out for a baby girl.

Oliversmumsarmy · 11/07/2015 13:24

One of my cats is called Kenneth Smile

MitzyLeFrouf · 11/07/2015 13:24

I don't like currently popular names on dogs, so many labradors called Max and Poppy. Boring. Why call a dog Max when you could call him Desmond?

googoodolly · 11/07/2015 13:26

Grin at Kenneth the cat!

My friend had a cat called Frederick.

HoneyDragon · 11/07/2015 13:36

The dog really is called HullyGully after our HullyGully.

My next pet is to be called Stratters. Dh won't let me get a kitten. I want Statters Catters. Sad

NurseRoscoe · 11/07/2015 14:07

I kind of wish some people would get a dog called princess, tiger Lily, fairy-twinkle-toes-bluebell-moonlight rather than inflicting that shit on their child. at least the dog won't ever want to have a serious respectable job or have to introduce themselves to a load of judgemental teens at a new school!

Sallystyle · 11/07/2015 14:25

Well I have a dog named Baby and I wouldn't want to name a kid that! I love human names for dogs though. We had a Staff called Bob.

PersonalClown · 11/07/2015 14:40

Not really.
I can't see my self calling a child Synyster aka Count Staffula or Fluppy.

I call my pets absolutely bonkers names!!

Eyespy24 · 11/07/2015 14:42

We named DD after DH's first dog!

Greenkit · 11/07/2015 14:49

Ha ha, my dogs are called Scrumpy Jack, Poppy and Monty all names I would NEVER have called my children.

The cat is called mouse!

larant · 11/07/2015 15:04

My parents dog is called Moo, as he is so placid and laid back. I hope they never wanted to call me that.
