A friend just posted the following:

AIBU to wonder why the hell it is still being sold? There are countless similar stories all over the net. Does a child have to die before anyone will take action?

Sorry thumbwitch that was not aimed at you! Clumsy posting on my part. It's nice to see a familiar poster and I think we used to be friendly during one of my previous incarnations actually!

That sounds bloody scary, it's no joke dealing with a child struggling to breathe.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 09/07/2015 16:49

ABSolutely agree with that - the blue shade isn't particularly nice either! (your name hasn't changed all that much, has it? If not then I recognise you too :) )

nannyplumislostinspace · 09/07/2015 16:53

This is quite scary. I've heard of other people who have had similar experiences, mainly in France. Luckily my son has list his 3rd one and I won't replace it.

That blog is apallingly written. Just goes to show, you don't need even basic writing skills to be a blogger nowadays! Everyone's doing it!

sheswallowedafly · 09/07/2015 16:54

I've had one similar before ...but I've had a few over the years! Smile Have had a bit of a break and am back after recently having DD2. No better way to spend feeding time (possibly not true of this particular board but the good stuff is still here if you wander around a bit)!

OP posts:
SignoraStronza · 09/07/2015 16:56

Perhaps it's ok if it's not your child, ehSignora?
Errm.... not really sure what to say to this, obviously. Sounds like my eight year old's playground talk! She, like most French babies survived the Sophie. The middle one didn't have one and the baby was given one as a gift by my very risk averse paediactric doctor friend. Who, by your reckoning op, probably thinks it's ok because it wasn't her child(ren) either!

sheswallowedafly · 09/07/2015 16:57

At least her motivation is good Nannyplum. How is your lovely neighbour by the way Grin?

OP posts:
sheswallowedafly · 09/07/2015 16:58

Ooh do give it a rest Signora, heavens above!

Hmm
oddfodd · 09/07/2015 17:07

So how does this thread work? Anyone who disagrees with you gets a biscuit? Count me in - I like biscuits :)

Don't we all Grin! I accept my OP was on the 'outraged' side. Here's a Biscuit for you: I'm having one too :).

OP posts:
JassyRadlett · 09/07/2015 17:11

oddfodd, I'm a bit worried about all the biscuits, TBH. Doesn't OP know they're a choking hazard?

sheswallowedafly · 09/07/2015 17:14

Ah let's keep it going girls. No one could accuse you of being magnanimous, that is for sure!

OP posts:
TantrumsAndBalloons · 09/07/2015 17:15

Ds1 got a CD stuck on his penis aged 2.
Should we ban CDs as well Grin

Shock Grin Your poor DS!! How on earth did you deal with that?

OP posts:
JassyRadlett · 09/07/2015 17:19

Magnanimous in...what?

sheswallowedafly · 09/07/2015 17:19

Are you going to refer me to the feminist board PrivateP? Sad

OP posts:
OrangeMochaFrappucino · 09/07/2015 17:21

Sophie is a dog toy. None of my children have shown the slightest interest in her, which leads me to believe she poses little danger. They prefer unequivocal hazards like wires, hot drinks, stairs etc. I can't wait til my youngest is old enough that he doesn't try to mortally injure himself the moment my back is turned...

BertieBotts · 09/07/2015 17:24

Ha! I've heard that about CDs before. And my cousin used to post slices of toast with various toppings into the video recorder. DS, modern child that he was, made do with inserting coins into the PS3.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 09/07/2015 17:25

How did I deal with it?

I laughed. And then snapped the cd in half to get it off. Then I laughed a bit more

My only regret is that I did not take a picture. He's 16 now. I would love to have photo evidence to torment him with

DonkeyOaty · 09/07/2015 17:27

Ah yes to post the toast

Those were the days my friend

Mmmmm biscuits. Custard cream, please.

SophieLeGiraffe · 09/07/2015 17:30

Should I change my name Grin

Hoplikeabunny · 09/07/2015 17:45

If you throw away Sophie, then you may as well discard all other toys too. I am willing to bet that Sophie has been repeatedly safety tested to within an inch of her life, and it is highly likely that every batch is tested individually. I work in a relevant field and am involved in aspects of toy safety, if Sophie isn't being tested, there are many many markets that she would not be able to be sold in to, and therefore it is unlikely that she would have sold so many units over the years. Obviously I don't work for Vulli, so I can't be 100% certain, but I'd be very very surprised! We can barely sell flashcards for teenagers without testing the crap out of them first!

elephantfan · 09/07/2015 17:52

Common sense should dictate that you give age appropriate toys to children. I wouldn't give that toy to a baby in case they poked their eye out let alone got it wedged down their throat.
Sadly there is no cure for stupidity.
