This is not meant to be a serious or mean post, I was talking to my friend the other day who causally mentioned that when her son was born she secretly thought he was ugly as he was bald with bulgy eyes and sticky out ears.
I was fascinated as I've NEVER heard anyone admit they thought their baby was ugly, I thought we all get slightly 'deluded mum brains' and all think our baby is the most beautiful thing ever to have been born - (when, let's face it some new borns are a bit odd looking). But now I wonder if there's others out there who didnt think that but didn't admit it either?
I'm really curious now!
Again, this isn't a nasty thread just seeing what people think as its maybe even a bit taboo?!

Most newborns look a bit funny - the odd one is cute from the start. DD1 was red, hairy and cross faced with a bit of a rugby ball head - she soon started to look more like a human being though and I thought she was lovely after she lost the newborn look and was a very cute chubby toddler with dark curls. She is now a very slender and graceful 10 year old. DD2 was a bit less squished looking when she was born, but looked hairless, skinny and weirdly long compared to how I remembered DD1. She didn't have hair for ages and looked like a right little tyke as a toddler, people always thought she was a boy. It wasn't until she started school that the blonde curls really started to grow, with her blue eyes and freckles she seems to have a sort of cuteness that draws others to her. And she is very tall for her age.

My youngest is totally gorgeous now, naturally, but wasn't a very attractive baby. She wasn't squidgy, she looked a bit thin and pinched due to my not-brilliant milk supply. But to me she was perfect the way she was and I even liked the fact that other women weren't clamouring quite so hard to get a cuddle as they were with my eldest because it meant I got her all to myself!

My dc is due October. If it comes out looking like dh we've hit the jackpot. If it comes out looking like me, not so much. Apart from my dniece, who was absolutely beautiful the minute she was born, I've never seen a beautiful new baby. They're all pretty ugly imo. People tell me I'll be different when my own dc is here. I don't think I will be. Neither does my DM. Grin

splendide · 09/07/2015 06:23

My friend's mum used to merrily tell him she used to cover the pram and pretend he was asleep if she bumped into her mates. She was so embarrassed by how ugly he was!

I was actually really shocked by how beautiful my newborn was as I'm very unattractive. People genuinely do a bit of a double take at him and look back at me. Often followed up with oh he's nothing like you!

GlitzAndGigglesx · 09/07/2015 06:41

DD wasn't the cutest newborn tbh. Her face was all scrunched together for a few hours, but she got cuter once it filled out. 4 years on she's gorgeous! Grin

InQuiteAPickle · 09/07/2015 06:45

Yep, mine were both Grant Mitchell's uglier twin brother.

I don't understand these people who say "we have a list of names but we'll see which one suits them on the day" Confused. If I'd have chosen a name that my DDs looked like I would have had to call them both "red potato" or Grant Mitchell.

They're both beautiful now and I know this to be true as people tell me Wink Grin.

My friend has just had a baby and she is actually beautiful. All pink and lovely Smile. She did have a section though and I think that c-section babies have the edge on beauty as they aren't squeezed through a hole Smile. They do have good genes though - their older DS is one of the cutest little boys I've ever seen.

PavlovaPalaver · 09/07/2015 06:55

I didnt think my newborns were beautiful - you rarely see a good looking one and mine were no exception. Wrinkly, hairy and bruised from forceps etc - not attractive!

As toddlers, DS1 & 3 were fairly cute but poor DS2 looked a bit like Mel Smith.

They're all a bit older now and are gorgeous (to me anyway).

blacktreaclecat · 09/07/2015 06:56

He was beautiful brand new but went through a phase where he'd lost loads of weight, had baby acne and cradle cap on his eyebrows and dry skin. From about 3-12 weeks he wasn't that pretty. Then around 3 months he filled out a bit ( never had chub though, he's always been long and skinny), his skin cleared up and his hair started to grow. He was cute from then on. Age 1 he had beautiful blonde curls, he was like a cherub, gorgeous. Now 3 he's pretty cute, but in need of a haircut at the moment!

Mine were born beautiful, then went through a fat / spotty / flaky stage. Didn't last thankfully and they're all pretty cute now.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 09/07/2015 07:08

I had mum goggles with mine. Oh how lovely I thought ds2 looked!
Erm.. I go back now and look a the pictures, he was scrawny, had a massive overbite and (to quote dh) a head shaped like Kryten from Red Dwarf. Confused
I nearly thumped dh when he said that. Poor ds2 then developed breast milk jaundice and was yellow for weeks on end. All other babies looked abnormally pink to me.

derxa · 09/07/2015 07:13

splendide Flowers
I bet you're not unattractive!

Marylou62 · 09/07/2015 07:18

DD now a beautiful 22 yr old,(Catherine Zeta Jones lookalike) was ugly! I was a bit shocked...She was late, blotchy and red, peeling skin, had a big crease on the bridge of her nose and her tongue was constantly out..she had boobs that actually leaked milk and then had a period....but God how I loved her! DS2...now.... apart from the first day when he was blotchy because of meconium, he was perfect looking, beautiful skin, perfect eyebrows and curly black hair...people told me he should model...strapping 6ft+ now.

DD was a right squidgeface who wore a permanent frown
DS2, well, he had an engaging smile at least.

tictactoad · 09/07/2015 08:30

Ds1's skin was flaky as. He was gorgeous once he stopped shedding though Grin

Ds2 looked like a shark. All big mouth and no chin Shock

florentina1 · 09/07/2015 08:33

I had my first baby when I was 20 and very naive. He was a prem and forceps. In those days you had to stay in bed for 48 hours and the nurses kept telling me how lovely he was. At two days old I was allowed to look at him through a glass window and all I could see was the incubator a little yellow thing with wires everywhere. Still a beautiful sight.

Finally got to hold him when he was 15 days, still not a looker but what a feeling that was.

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 09/07/2015 08:35

Ds was long, and skinny, and I genuinely thought he looked like E.T he's still long and skinny but gorgeous with it

Kamden · 09/07/2015 08:39

I've never seen a freshly born baby that is attractive. I've seen a very cute baby at a few days old but in the first hour or two?! Nah. Wrinkly raisins from being in a bath for 9 months.

DD is my first and was a skinny, small, hairy, angry looking and not at all what I was expecting. She then got really fat and a mullet. Fortunately, by the age of 2, she grew into a beautiful little human being. I don't know how my ex and I managed to produce such an attractive person, neither of us are all that! She's 14 now and I can't believe her beauty, both inside and out.

DS was a bit wrinkly at birth but still very, very cute as a small baby. He is still very handsome and definitely takes after his daddy, not me!

TheCunkOfPhilomena · 09/07/2015 08:47

DS shot out like a bullet and, as a result, looked like this for the first few hours. It was alright though, the nurses stuck a hat on him and he looked beautiful.

...to ask if any of you thought your babies WEREN'T attractive?
SocialMediaAddict · 09/07/2015 08:50

One of my twins was hideous!!! A massive square head. It wasn't until he got to about 18 months he grew into his head and became better looking. He's actually gorgeous now and we laugh at his baby pictures.

slightlyconfused85 · 09/07/2015 08:52

Me! When dd was born she was all red and puffy round the eyes, her her was jet black, her ears were a bit hairy her lips were red and her skin had a purple/white hue! Her head was funny shaped too as she had had a ventouse. DH used to joke she looked like baby Dracula...! Of course she was extra beautiful to us a few hours later and age 2 and a half is a beauty! My first impressions though...

ohtheholidays · 09/07/2015 08:54

No all 5 ours were born looking like they were a few weeks old,no idea why.

But my Mum and Dad told me(when I was much older)that they're first born,my oldest brother looked like an alien when he was born Grin and apparently the midwife who helped deliver him thought the same.

OllyBJolly · 09/07/2015 08:55

DD2 was a huge baby, just short of 10lbs, and was born covered in dark hair. The skin you could see was purple. I'd seen the hair thing before so knew it was temporary and didn't bother me but realise it did shock everyone else.

Because it was such a quick labour, and they wanted to monitor her because of her size, we were put in a high observation ward after the birth. All the other babies were prem. People would coo at the other babies then look in my cot, recoil, and say "Wow it's big".

I was under no illusion my baby was bonny. Aged 22 now, she is a 6ft stunning redhead.

slicedfinger · 09/07/2015 08:56

When DD1 was a baby I actually had a conversation with DH about how hard it must be for the others in our ante natal group to see us with such a beautiful baby when theirs were soooo ugly. Blush
