MOT- boobs

At the garage getting my MOT done and been confronted with not one but 2 page three calendar type things fully visible in the public area? Not being easily bothered by stuff I'm surprised at how it's annoyed me. This is a big company, not a chain but certainly not a one car enterprise. What can I do? What should I do? AIBU to ask you to tell me where to go from here ( I can't politely ask them to take it down, I am the only person here and it's a bit spooky) nearly bought my 6yo DD and I'm glad I didn't now.

I would just not take my car there again and write a letter saying why

In fact if I'd seen them while dropping it off Id have taken my car elsewhere

thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 18:05

I'm going to try and get a picture, they are right visible through a window on the walk way.

This is it.

To the desk staff:

Not sure those calendars are a good idea in that wall position. Did you know people waiting can see them?

MaidOfStars · 08/07/2015 18:10

Hmmm, they aren't actually showing boobs?

Grim, obviously, but hardly a public obscenity.

thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 18:13

It's quite sexist though isn't it? Don't know if there's any women working here. I doubt it though, I think I'd last a day and I'm no shrinking violet.

Yes I would email the head office and say I wouldn't be coming back. If it is indeed in the customer area and that's very surprising these days with a big company.

I have a Beckham calander that's comparable but it's in my own home.

Work is work.

TheoriginalLEM · 08/07/2015 18:18

Definitely complain. That is disgusting and quite frankly makes the employees look like idiots!! Head office all the way and demand feedback on what action they have taken.

thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 18:21

It's visible through the window where you look at your car being MOTd. Lucky for me a reasonable person has let me sit in the staff room where I can hear the engineering manager calling everyone cunts. I can deal with that though Grin

BabyFeets · 08/07/2015 18:23

So they have a hot girl on the wall, get over it for God sake people complain about everything these days This isn't the 19th century, do you have an issue with women breast feeding in public too?

thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 18:27

No I don't have an issue with women breastfeeding in public because that's completely different, isn't it? Also I was under the impression that this sort of thing is frowned upon in general by companies. I don't see them on the wall at Boots, at school, in the Garden centre? Why are a company that has a mechanics arm perpetuating a stereotype?

chippednailvarnish · 08/07/2015 18:29

Get a Biro and draw more clothes on them.

That'll teach 'em

Grin
thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 18:30

Actually chipped, that would be my preferred action! It's behind a window though!

OP posts:
chippednailvarnish · 08/07/2015 18:44

Draw Willies on the window...

thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 18:45

I have no marker and I don't wear lipstick. I'm a shit feminist activist.

OP posts:
chippednailvarnish · 08/07/2015 18:46

Bogies , that's what my DD does Grin

thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 18:48

bogies. Classic disruption. I'll see if I can get to it. I am suspicious women work here though, diet coke is 20p cheaper than red coke in the vending machine.

chippednailvarnish · 08/07/2015 18:53

Maybe all the aspartame has fried their brains and left them to weak to say anything...

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 08/07/2015 18:57

Dh is a mechanic. The company he works for received calendars like these from their suppliers! Complete with strategically placed car engines, tyres etc. And of course, the suppliers brand and logo all over the place. (Dh's boss binned them btw, but Dh came home and told me all about it saying "you know that mumsnet thread about everyday sexism...")

thetroubleis · 08/07/2015 19:01

Ah, good on your DH and his boss. I just find it really disheartening and a bit sad to be honest, top that with the fact I'm going to have to give them my money in a minute... Can't wait to get home. I text DP and he's not too impressed either- first thing he said was about bringing DD!

Some of the young draughtsmen and apprentices used to have them hanging in the office where I used to work. I was the only woman in the department, and I found it uncomfortable.

I made little bikini tops and shorts for them out of post-it notes. All decorated and pretty and everything.

Some of them moaned, some thought it was funny but they got rid of the calendars.

That said, I don't necessarily think that it's that big an issue if it's not somewhere you would have to see it day in, day out. Find another garage if it bothers you, let them know why if you feel it necessary. But it's a few minutes out of your day, it was nothing personal - let it drop.

DowntownFunk · 08/07/2015 20:28

Fungus someone in the drawing office in a place I used to work did the same thing? I wonder if we worked for the same company at one point?

ShebaShimmyShake · 08/07/2015 20:52

Gladder than ever for the lovely garage I use. All male staff, but nothing sexist on the walls - in fact they even hold car maintenance classes for women only and are always putting up posters to promote events in women's interests or causes. Always perfect gentlemen when I go there too - never been patronised as I have been in some other places.
