to call in sick with this?

I was bit by an insect on Saturday, my leg went red, swollen, got and painful when I walk. DH convinced me to go to a&e last night and I'm glad I did. They diagnosed Cellulitis and have been given antibiotics. I've been keeping it elevated last night and today as all the info says to do. I'm working tomorrow and will be on my feet. I don't like taking days off, we are made to feel like we are taking the piss. It's like guilty until proven innocent there and even if they believe you, they really don't. I'm on a written warning for an unrelated matter from a few months ago, nothing serious. I'm worried they're going to sack me if I am off sick because of a swollen leg.

Any thoughts?

I called in earlier. I'm going in, it's just easier, but will be sitting the whole time. I know its not elevating my leg but that's all I've done today. I've gone stir crazy!! It feels much better compared to this morning. Can walk normally and it's not painful anymore. It's still a bit swollen but the lump itself has gone down and is less hard. My leg isn't hot anymore either. I think its on the mend. The redness was covering half my leg now it's just the 'splodge' I had on day one with what looks like bruising around it.
I don't work for the post office btw but our sickness is treated exactly the same way Sad I have a feeling it's more common than I realised.

What a disgrace that you are treated so poorly when you are unfortunate enough to be ill. I really hope you recover soon and please do go home if you start to feel worse.

Reading about cellulitis on the nhs website I would say ring your GP surgery to ask for a telephone appointment and ask them their advice. I don't like taking time off and felt guilty when I was in hospital earlier this year but I think you need to get medical advice on this one.

Get a doctors note from your GP. You can self cert for 1st 5 days of absence but if you are worried about them thinking you are skiving, a Dr note should help. Explain the unreasonableness of your employer to your doctor, and I'm sure they will help.

Get well soon. Bloody bastard insects Angry

Get well soon. Private sector sucks with the treatment of sick employees. It really does. My boss was told to question me after my ectopic pregnancy. Even he refused and just filled in the form to say he'd interviewed me.
Drink plenty of water and eat if you can. Anti biotic pills are awful on the tummy.

Not all private sector. The company I work for is incredible and has low staff turnover as a result. Depends what a company's priorities and values are.

OP - any sign of it getting worse, get off home. Or at least ask to be able to lie down and elevate your leg!
