To just not FEEL that overweight??

TheHouseOnBellSt · 06/07/2015 13:20

I'm one stone overweight. That's quite a lot...but I look in the mirror and think "I don't look fat!"

But I must be!

I'm a size 14 on the bottom and a 12 on top..5.7 and 13 stones.

And Felix, you are my torso twin, we are indeed the same general shape!

FelixFelix · 08/07/2015 22:20

Spit and leedy we could all share clothes Grin

FraggleHair · 08/07/2015 22:22

'OP 13st for a 5'7" female is very very overweight.'

It's about a 1.5 stone above the higher end of the healthy weight range. I wouldn't say that's 'very, very' overweight.

WoonerismSpit · 08/07/2015 22:22

Ha, let's!

goodasitgets · 08/07/2015 22:24

Ridiculously heavy. Was 16.10, now 15.3 with a shed load of muscle

To just not FEEL that overweight??
Runningupthathill82 · 08/07/2015 22:24

Cactus, you look great. Proof right there that a BMI of 19 can look really fit and healthy, not gaunt.

And yes, leedy, a BMI of 28 is very overweight IMO. If 25 is overweight and 30 is obese, then surely 28 counts as "very overweight", as it's edging towards obese?
But then the wording barely matters really, does it.

leedy · 08/07/2015 22:25

"Spit and leedy we could all share clothes"

Hee, yes!

WoonerismSpit · 08/07/2015 22:26

goodasitgets, you look amazing!

fourtothedozen · 08/07/2015 22:27

Is it comfortable carrying several stones of extra weight?
The Op is carrying around 4 stone more than me ( we are the same height).
Isn't that very tiring? I am thinking that is like carrying 5 huge bags of potatoes around every day all day.
I know if my weight creeps up to 9st 10 or so I start to feel sluggish, uncomfortable- I lose that spring in my step, and that's just an extra 10 pounds. I can't imaging carrying 4 stones around. It seems a burden.

Well, except the poster seemed be saying it to mean "that is an incredibly huge weight for a woman to be, very very overweight indeed" rather than a "that is really quite overweight but not actually obese". As if "very very overweight" and "obese" were synonymous.

Well at my weight I happily horse ride, do spin, pole fitness including inverting, lift heavy weights, boxing...

Runningupthathill82 · 08/07/2015 22:32

Fourto - there's some really interesting stats about how losing weight equates to faster running times. That was one of the main reasons I decided to shift the last stone.
And it works - my 10k times started going under 50min for the first time once I shifted the flab.

I was still a healthy weight at my biggest though, so don't know what it's like to carry a lot of extra weight around all the time (aside from when pg). One interview with Renee Zellwegger, that she did after getting big to play Bridget Jones, sticks in the memory though. She said being so much bigger was like carrying a toddler around all the time.
Is that really what it feels like? Though I imagine people are used to it, so don't really notice?

FraggleHair · 08/07/2015 22:34

No. I doubt it feels like carrying a toddler around as you wouldn't be holding all the weight in your arms like a sack of spuds.

To be honest, no (though I am, as I have just noticed, a few pounds lighter than the OP). I don't notice it at all. I can cycle for miles, I can run and do dance classes (though not at the moment as I have a dodgy foot), I can swim, I do pilates, I don't get out of breath, I don't feel sluggish. It's not like when I was pregnant when I genuinely felt like I was carrying around extra weight. I'm sure it would be different if I was morbidly obese, but as a pretty fit, fairly muscley, slightly fat bird it doesn't affect me at all. The only difference I remember from when I was skinnier was fitting into smaller trousers, my energy levels were much the same.

slithytove · 08/07/2015 22:37

Felix I found your picture so interesting, I'm 13.1 and 5'5 and a large size 16, so much bigger than you!

I have a massive frame, maybe that's why? Can I ask the clothes brand?

I'm wearing a 16 in debenhams, new look, manteray at the moment. No hope of a 14 for another stone or so.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 22:38

I am NOT 13 stone any more! I've said it a few times. I posted this initially with my weight I had at my last weigh...and since then I've lost 4 pounds. Ha!

"No. I doubt it feels like carrying a toddler around as you wouldn't be holding all the weight in your arms like a sack of spuds."

Well, quite, carrying a toddler feels really heavy. By contrast, I have little difficulty hoisting my own terrifyingly vast ponderous bulk around the place.

leedy · 08/07/2015 22:39

Well given that I miscalculated my own weight in stone, I in fact weigh around the same as you, OP! :)

sanfairyanne · 08/07/2015 22:40

i'm a lot stronger than i was when thinner, and fitter. i used to be thin and unfit but now am a bit fat and fit. go figure Smile

TalkinPeace · 08/07/2015 22:40

When I was 3 stone heavier my knees were so sore that I could not walk for several days a month.

On the main weight loss threads we sometimes get people to load up a rucksack with the amount of weight they think they want to lose, carry it around the house and then put it down
and that moment of lightness will be always

if you are used to being heavy (I was for 10 years)
its really hard to imagine how you will feel when lighter
but the answer is
better
it really is

FelixFelix · 08/07/2015 22:41

slithytove I have quite a small waist but big hips and thighs! It's so interesting to see how much everyone differs. My jeans are a 16 from Topshop and vest top is a size 14 from Primark. I find Topshop run quite small so I'm always pleased to fit in something from there Grin

TheHouseOnBellSt · 08/07/2015 22:42

I do get tired easily actually but I'm not inactive. I've been eating too much for what I do though....too many carbs and too much fat and sugar. I'm hoping to get to about 10 stone. I think I will look good at that weight.

Given that I lost 4 pounds quite quickly though am aware some could be water....I think I'm doing ok.

OP posts:
leedy · 08/07/2015 22:48

I think there's a difference between being heavy and unfit and being heavy and fit/muscular/strong - I'm heavier than you (I presume) TalkinPeace but it's certainly not affecting my joints, and I honestly do not remember feeling amazingly better/lighter/more energetic when I was thinner (I lost a lot of weight the year after my eldest son was born). I also suspect a goodly portion of the weight I'm hauling around is muscle and so, er, good for hauling me around.

I'm not saying that I don't want to lose a couple of pounds/tone up a bit more at the mo, but I'm pretty sure it's going to have little effect on me other than fitting into my smaller jeans again.

duplodon · 08/07/2015 22:48

I would really like to be back at a normal weight but I am wary. I was always 11 to 11 and a half (within normal range) until I decided to diet for my wedding when I went down to 10st. I got sick after my wedding (nothing related, just a significant illness) and I shot up to 12st 4. I stayed at that until 3 kids in a row I put on over a stone more. My weight is ultra static, literally doesn't move an ounce over the month when weighed at same time in morning. I do really, really walk 5-7 miles a day. I have three under five and am setting up a business and just don't want to be focusing on my weight, as I've been obsessive in the past. It unleashes a load of self loathing. If I could diet without self hatred I would do it. I don't know how to do that.
