To think today's Royal Christening is deliberate mind-fuckery timewarpery?

It's all so ... 1948? ... mummy pushing the heirloom pram, George's historical fancy dress outfit, the Norland Nanny in her starched uniform, the crown jewels font shipped in from the Tower, the fawning sycophantic voice-over on the BBC helpfully sharing with the little people the details of George's internal monologue ... It still is 2015 is it? Haaaaaalp!!!!! I thought these were the new wave modern Royals? Confused

It's just clothes... their choice for their christening. The clothes aren't shite, just not your personal choice.

Topseyt · 06/07/2015 00:15

I like the royals and I think that William, Kate, Harry etc. are the people to take it all forward and modernise it from its current archaic-ness.

It would have looked more "modern" and "with-it" to have used her own bugaboo or whatever brand of pram she normally has to wheel her baby to church. That old one was obviously very well polished and cared for, but it looked anachronistic and rather heavy to push/awkward to steer.

My guess is that it wouldn't normally be Kate's style.

ComposHatComesBack · 06/07/2015 00:18

Bread and bloody circuses.

MaggieJoyBlunt · 06/07/2015 00:18

I feel really sorry for that boy.

And Norland Nanny uniforms? In the 21th Century?!

It's branding alright, but what brand are they trying to project exactly?

Disney royals?

Gruntfuttock · 06/07/2015 00:19

knackered69 "Was he christened today then?"

The baby is a girl, Charlotte.

MaggieJoyBlunt · 06/07/2015 00:20

My guess is that it wouldn't normally be Kate's style.

It's most probably all her idea.

GrimDamnFanjo · 06/07/2015 00:36

It's all part of the brand. Well played imho.

SenecaFalls · 06/07/2015 00:59

That nanny's uniform might well be the ugliest oddest thing I have seen in a long time. Why would they have her wear that instead of regular clothes? To make sure she is seen to be a servant and not family or a guest? Do you supposed the nanny actually wanted to wear it?

HelloNewman · 06/07/2015 01:02

I think the nanny's uniform is the most disturbing thing.

CultureSucksDownWords · 06/07/2015 01:13

It's what the Norland college students wear for formal events/occasions, so I imagine she's used to it

IWantToBeCalledAnneOfAvonleaButSomeFucke · 06/07/2015 01:17

I really hope it was the Nanny's idea. A bit like Sunday Best being school uniform in the old days.

Totally unnessecary though. She always looks very smart when joining the family for public duties.

That aside, I thought the whole thing looked lovely. Close family and friends, country church, gran's for tea. Perfect.

RoboticSealpup · 06/07/2015 01:42

YANBU. It's obscene. How do you even explain royals to your children? "Oh, they're so much better and more important than everyone else, so we all give money to them so they can be really rich and pampered and live in a castle."?

Redglitter · 06/07/2015 01:47

They didn't make her wear the uniform it's standard Norland Nanny uniform it's a tradition from the college nothing to do with Kate and William

saoirse31 · 06/07/2015 02:05

I think the angst about Georges outfit and the pram is ridiculous- their babies, their choice.

I'd say they're a distraction from the real problems in a capitalist society , no more no less. but hey keep the people loving and / or hating them and that's their job done. Like religion, the opium for the masses etc....

saoirse31 · 06/07/2015 02:06

Wonder what Philip thinks of the Greek vote tho...

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 06/07/2015 02:14

I don't really get the whole recreating William's toddler outfits on George. That's the second time in as many weeks, isn't it? Perhaps I missed a trick not pulling my old rara skirt from the back of my mum's closet for DD.

I don't understand why their nanny was working, it was a Sunday and there were loads of family members & friends.

The80sweregreat · 06/07/2015 06:01

the nanny in the norland nanny outfit was wayyy over the top. I guess George will cringe big time at those outfits when he is older - I thought they would be more modern with the clothing for him, surprised at all the 1950s look they insist on putting him in! still, he looks a handful and although im not a fan of the royals, he is sweet!
it was very carefully orchestrated for the media. they must think we were all born yesterday. I thought William could have lent a hand with that pram. he is a typical bloke after all..

Weebirdie · 06/07/2015 06:02

Water flown in especially from the River Jordan

More than likely packed inside a Diplomatic Pouch that would have been getting sent to the UK anyway.

BeautifulBatman · 06/07/2015 06:06

I thought they all looked gorgeous. The pram is beautiful (just wish I had the garden or grounds to justify strolling round with one). There's so much more to get a wedgie about than this.

LineRunner · 06/07/2015 06:33

There is always more to get a wedgie about whilst Brendon O'Carroll still lives and breathes, but I have nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed the MN critique of this bizarre spectacle.

BeautifulBatman · 06/07/2015 06:36

A bizarre spectacle?? Really? Exaggerate much?

ChillieJeanie · 06/07/2015 06:37

I was baptised in water from the river Jordan back in the 70s, and I imagine many other people are as well. It's not like it's hard to get hold of. No doubt Ego would dismiss that as pretentious too.
