So let's recap to where we were with sources. Generally all extra sauces placed on the table in a pub are naff.
Mayo escapes as its continental
Ditto salad dressing but ONLY if individual oil and vinegar.
Tomato ketchup ?? Only if outside
Fish sauce ??
Soy sauce ??

WILL NOBODY THINK OF THE HOT SAUCE?!

ghostyslovesheep · 05/07/2015 23:04

or what about gentlemen's relish Grin

TealFanClub · 05/07/2015 23:04

The parliament pic is just to remind the uses they aren't in it. You know like the working class venerating the royals. whereas everyone knows they are blood sucking leeches

Hot sauce is still just hipster. Ergo ok.

Sweet corn ok. Fits into kitsch American category. ??

WTF is foams and soils ? I know what jus is - posh runny shit to go on top of posh not runny food....

oh wait, I think my pleb is showing Grin

but seriously, what are foams and soils?

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/07/2015 23:06

Sauces in sachets are wrong.

Hygienic, but wrong.

JointheJoyride · 05/07/2015 23:06

I have a plastic tomato tomato sauce squeezer. I am very common though.

serin · 05/07/2015 23:06

A working class MP

Sleepsoftly · 05/07/2015 23:09

Gentleman's Relish, surely.

sassytheFIRST · 05/07/2015 23:10

Ah but what about Nandos? Eh ?? It's basically ordinary sauces but add extra chilli and put them in tall bottles with pourers and suddenly they are hipster and allowable... Or are they?

serin · 05/07/2015 23:10

Since taking delivery of me Hello fresh boxes, I have been introduced to a whole new level of sauces (well new to me, you lot have probably been having them for years)

Kecap Manis is now a favourite.

sassytheFIRST · 05/07/2015 23:11

And pickle? Wgat do we think about pickle - branstons - U, sweet pickle non-U, piccalilli??!!

HaleMary · 05/07/2015 23:12

When I was growing up, we understood that our neighbours were upwardly-mobile because they had Heinz ketchup in a jar, and they stood the jar on a special little saucer, with a special knife for putting a discreet little blob on the side of your plate. We, meanwhile, were proles who had plastic bottles of Tesco own brand.

TalcAndTurnips · 05/07/2015 23:14

ghostyslovesheep - Gentlemen's Relish smells like what you might dig out from between tramps' toes.

Posh as fook - common as mook.

ShadowsCollideCantLogInToMN · 05/07/2015 23:16

Usual, I have a plastic tomato that I decant my ketchup into Grin. I love it. The best ketchup though, is the really vinegary stuff that comes in a little metal bowl with a spoon, served with chicken and chips in a pub that serves proper pub food.

I also like to mash brown sauce into mashed potatoes.

MrsSchadenfreude · 05/07/2015 23:16

Mmm, brown sauce. It has to be Daddies though.

SylvaniansAtEase · 05/07/2015 23:18

Yes to dispensed from bottle to something else in advance - otherwise you run the risk of getting that horrible, horrible ketchup pre-cum thing if you don't shake the bottle upside down properly. Bleurgh.

JointheJoyride · 05/07/2015 23:20

Ketchup pre-cum Grin Grin

YesThisIsMe · 05/07/2015 23:22

Hang on a mo. Was the Wrongness thread deleted? But I was saving the second half for later!

I would have thought never having seen a tomato shaped sauce bottle in the wild would make you young not just MC, but if she saw it on Grange Hill that can't be it,

I'm sure I've seen tomato sauce bottles on the tables of some very poncey eateries, but the key is that they are a) Heinz (it's a design classic) and b) glass.

I spent too much time in Belgium and require special Belgian mayo for my chips which you can't get here. Which sounds v. poncey but actually it's pretty much salad cream.

jessym · 05/07/2015 23:24

Heinz ketchup in a glass bottle = acceptable.

HP sauce = acceptable.

Daddies / cheapo, poor quality own-brand alternatives = unacceptable.

Garlick · 05/07/2015 23:25

I want to know what foams and soils are, too!

I'm guessing foams are bits of sauce that have had carbon dioxide or something bubbled through them?

But SOILS??!

? ? ?

ShadowsCollideCantLogInToMN · 05/07/2015 23:25

Hale, we definitely didn't have Heinz when I was growing up. Heinz in a glass bottle seemed so fancy. We had Kandee red sauce in a one litre bottle. Usually served with Granda's home made chips, and rashers and sausages. The rashers and sausages thrown in the fryer with the chips. Heavily buttered batch bread and strong, sweet tea. I dare say we are properly working class.

I also love curry chips with vinegar from the chipper. Maybe with a spice burger Grin.

Goodbetterbest · 05/07/2015 23:26

By 'sauces' do you mean condiments dear?

Wink
GoofyIsACow · 05/07/2015 23:28

Foam is basically goz... Someone gozzed on your food

Soil - it's lightly ground so it's... Well, soily, i dunno, it's poncey.

ROAR at ketchup pre-cum!
