About TV chefs

I'm watching morning TV about how to make the ideal picnic. Apparently I should start with rice wraps which are available from all Asian supermarkets and world food aisles- so they are "everywhere". Not in rural Suffolk they aren't! My nearest Asian supermarket in 20 miles away, my local world foods aisle sells tacos!

It's just not fair!Angry

Disclaimer: I've been up since 3am with a vicious stomach bug, so my perspective may be skewed!

Ah yanbu. Jamie Oliver is particularly bad at this imo.

You can buy them online but it's not worth the P&P unless you're buying a few other things that you will be using. Also supermarkets stock according to local demands, I used to live in Sutton and got very weird looks when I asked where the tofu was in Asda.

oh yes...the old "widely available" ....not in a rural tesco an hour from Dundee, where they still view red peppers with suspicion.

PAH

when we go to London I spend hours in random asian supermarkets ohhh-ing and ahhh-ing at all the fancy things!
tbf I do that in the dundee chinese supermarket too, but really these tv chefs need their city attitudes shoving where the quinoa won't grow. 3)

Have you tried doing online shopping from either Morrisons or Ocado? Both of these pick their stock from big central warehouses, so should have better availability than local stores.

Granted, you would have to do a proper shop to make it worthwhile, but it could be a solution.

I'm lucky in that I can easily access Asian supermarkets and large versions of all the mainstream ones - between two large cities in the north with quite diverse populations.
