To think paedophilia isn't a daily mail invention?

As the weather gets warmer I have already noticed various threads about where to permit children to be naked and the inevitable answers state that there 'isn't a paedophile around every corner!' (generally with a hearty 'gosh, how silly!' tone), that people who don't let their innocent children remove their clothing are ruining their childhoods and the Daily Mail readers are the ones who don't let their children run round in this state.

I have never bought a copy of the Daily Mail.

However, I do think - know - paedophiles exist.

Aibu to be sick of the insinuation that those of us who are concerned about sexual abuse of our children are hysterical daily mail readers?

people who ARE Paedophiles have a sexual attraction to children - many can and do control it

child pornography doesn't exist - all you see are images of child sexual ABUSE btw

Op. It's when people's lives are in touched and no experience they think it's a myth. I'm not going to name change but there is someone very close in my family who has deep issues and has been arrested twice even with him admitting to the offence (of a very very young child). It infuriates me that our family and friends backs him up/supports him/refuses he is to blame and no one believes the victim other than the child's parents. It has major repercussions and I'm convinced there has been massive coverups in the family I married into.

untouched not in touch. Bad typo

ghostyslovesheep · 03/07/2015 20:04

BUT I will add I do not believe that abusers lurk round every corner and happily let my children run round nude etc

I wont make them live in fear as children - there is no shame in being naked as a child

It's cool stars not having a go at anyone in particular about the phrase at all. I just feel that those images shouldn't be minimised or equated with something sort of acceptable, as pornography is in this day and age. I agree, everyone has heir own feelings about their personal abuse, and I should say also that there are no such images of me out there, so it's not something I have had to deal with x

I don't get the OP.

Does the OP think that children going naked on a beach or something when they're with their parents puts them at risk of being kidnapped and sexually abused?

I thought most children were sexually abused by family members?

StarsInTheNightSky · 03/07/2015 21:52

IfNot that's OK, I was just worried about bothering you, or anyone else for that matter. I have issues with adult pornography too, but that's a whole separate issue linked to when I was raped as an adult, I seem to have been a bit of a magnet for abusers Hmm. I completely agree, no abuse should ever be minimized, normalised or in any way made to seem less horrific than it is. Abuse in all its forms is monstrous x.

I agree OP. My 3 year old daughter took her clothes off and ran naked on the beach and a man sitting on a deck chair wolf whistled at her!!? Wtf. I am by no means a paranoid person nor a daily mail reader but have had a few experiences like this sadly!

I stand corrected. And hope I did not offend anyone.

The 'creepy stranger' is a dangerous myth.

When I worked in a courtroom I was always absolutely stunned at the lovely young men and responsible-looking dad types who were up for these offences.

I never would have picked it.

Atenco · 04/07/2015 04:47

Well I did have a creepy boss who went to prison for paedophilia, but I think he was the exception that proves the rule
