I was in coop this morning queuing to buy some milk. I saw some disposable bbqs for sale and on the front of one of them it said something like 'mums night off' I can't remember the exact wording but it was implying that you should have a bbq to give mum a break from the cooking.... I instantly thought of mumsnet because I can imagine everyone shouting 's exist sexist' haha. I'm all for equality etc.. but I bet I wouldn't have noticed this before!

I thought it was a complete joke, because, usually IME, women end up doing all the prep, then chopping up salads, doing the dishes, etc. while the men just stands by the barbeque for a bit with a can of beer looking pleased with themselves.

The BBQ is my domain in this house.

And then expect you to be pleased with a carcinogenic sausage.

BBQs are not 'Mum's night off'. It's just their night off rotating the meat over the heat source. Every other little thing falls to them. And they usually have to do the washing up, because Dad cooked.

On a related note, I saw the changing of the guard outside buckingham palace a few days ago, and one of the horses pooed RIGHT OUTSIDE the palace, then the other horses marched straight over it trampling it into the road so there was no way it could be scraped it.
It immediately made me think of the bathorse shit thread from a few years ago where someone went apoplectic about horse poo near her house

One particular BBQ I remember having, I did all the shopping, marinaded the meat the night before, made all the side salads and potato dishes, sliced the French sticks, did all the cleaning (Yes, ALL of it, whilst partner faffed around in the garden, mowing the lawn and cutting the hedges, something that did not need to be done that morning). Partner then stood at the BBQ watching the pre-prepared meat to make sure it didn't burn

Friends came round, and one male said "thank you, lovely. Compliments to the Chef" raising his glass towards partner.

Funnily enough, he doesn't get invited very often

Queue in M&S yesterday was a similar experience. They sell man mints that are extra strong with the words 'dude' 'legend' 'epic' on them. FFS obviously a puny woman can't handle a minty mint!!!

morelike umm yes... that's kind of the point? it is sexist because dad's can cook too, it's implying that women are the only ones that do the cooking! and also that a bbq is a 'man's job' when in fact it isn't.

Oh ffs.... all those of you who are whinging about your man just nudging bits of meat around the bbq, expecting the glory simply for being a male who has prepared some food, whilst you continue to scurry round doing the prep, serving, clearing up etc. should stop being so pathetic and downtrodden, and make your relationships a bit more equal.... This is 2015, not 1915! Is is any wonder shops get away with this kind of nonsense advertising when so many women acquiese in the whole thing.

DH does all the cooking in our house, and when we have a BBQ he does all the prep/marinating/salads etc. Every night is a night off cooking
