I wonder if there is any difference now between AIBU and chat?
Once upon a time AIBU was a debating forum for contentious issues.Nw it is things like babycare questions and sleb gossip.
(and I get the irony of this thread, before some smart Alec points it out)

AIBU spills on to chat now.

Somebody will rant about something over on chat and say AIBU?
Yes, because you're posting an AIBU topic on chat!

Cain Which is why I hardly bother with it now, and mainly post in threads on chat.

Fatmomma99 · 02/07/2015 00:04

I haven't cooked a meal since I discovered AIBU. I send work emails with and write "WTactualF".

Please don't take it away from me...........

I just ignore the threads I think are boring which are the baby care ones, MIL or wedding

Me too. But it does feel to me like queue jumping. Like the one I've just noticed asking AIBU to ask for ideas on ideas for healthy snacks to feed a toddler. FFS.

Stupid question - but where is chat on mn. I see it in active discussions but is there it's own home ?

derxa · 02/07/2015 08:12

Can anyone give me an actual example of an AIBU from the halcyon days of
MN before us plebs/barbarians invaded it? I see a lot of comments like 'when MN was actually funny'

WayneRooneysHair · 02/07/2015 08:16

My last thread in AIBU was an onslaught, people were nitpicking at the words I'd used, insinuating that the phase 'shouting distance' meant I was aggressive etc and it really made me think how other thread starters feel.

Merrylegs · 02/07/2015 08:17

Hmm lot of its abuse on this thread.

BIWI · 02/07/2015 08:22

Heyho - if you go to the list of topics, _Chat is in Fun and Games

Goshthatsspicy · 02/07/2015 08:22

I think it can be a very cruel platform for smart asses!
I'm suspicious of those that only ever answer, never start a thread.
Some wait, like sharks, to pounce and make themselves look funny.
If l spend too much time there, l start to feel very low.
It didn't used to be quite so snippy

derxa · 02/07/2015 08:36

I'm suspicious of those that only ever answer, never start a thread.
I have started threads which were genuine and then have had bile poured over me. Makes you think twice.

Goshthatsspicy · 02/07/2015 10:54

derxa true.
There are some characters in that section, that only respond though.
They are well known, and able to dish out the mockery with ease.
It makes me wonder.

Cumbrae · 02/07/2015 20:31

Gosh why are you suspicious?

I have, in my seven ish years on MN started about two threads. And they were to ask specific questions.

I love and get on with with my DH.

I love and get on well with my family.

I somehow to manage to avoid any of the friendship drama which features in so much of AIBU

My kids are great and doing fine.

My PILs aren't perfect but they are mostly lovely and extremely kind and I would never start a thread about them out of respect to my DH.

That wipes out most thread starting opportunities. On the other hand I do like to be helpful and offer other people help/advice/ a kick up the bottom if they request it.

I'm also fairly opinionated and this is a nice outlet for that without upsetting all my nice RL friends and family.

Fairy13 · 02/07/2015 20:40

YABU.
I bloody love AIBU.
Plus, if we only have chat, where will worra post?

Tuskerfull · 02/07/2015 20:59

I think MNHQ should move threads that are obviously not AIBU questions. Things like "AIBU to ask you for a banana bread recipe? Just posting here for traffic". If they did that, and cut the number of sub-forums by about 70%, the site would be a lot more balanced.

BIWI · 02/07/2015 22:50

I think they should do two things.

Firstly, move all the threads that end up in AIBU 'just for the traffic' to the right boards

And second, be more watchful for those posters who only ever post on AIBU and who do it just for the sport. They are the same, IMVHO as the goady thread-starting fuckers.

lemonade30 · 02/07/2015 22:59

I'm a veritable veteran of the wyoo part of an alternative parenting site.

on balance I'm finding AIBU to be filled with exactly the same proportion of various posting personalities. its uncanny.

hang around anywhere long enough and it will bore the arse off of you.
