Why do we still need to know female tennis players' marital status?

I can't think of a single reason why, when they announce the score at a women's match at Wimbledon, they might need to say Miss before the surname. They don't say Mr for the men's. I get that it's 'tradition', but really, why do they still do this in the 21st century?

Isn't it more to determine female vs male players? Even the married ones are Miss.

I'm sure if the women had a problem with it something would be done by now?

But there are only 2 players on the court and they are both women so why do they think we'll get them confused with men? And that doesn't answer the question why they don't call the male players Mr.

It's only done at Wimbledon. At all the other Gram Slams they just use the surname, same as the men. Wimbledon is all about tradition, most of the players like it that way too and think it's a bit special for that reason.
