Queuing to use the tip....

Whenever and wherever I go to the tip, there is ALWaYS a massive queue. Got there today, and there were 10 cars ahead of me, and 9behind(causing hold ups on the road as they were queuing on the road).

When I left there were 18 people queuing. I have had to queue everywhere I've lived. Why are they so rammed? It's not exactly a tourist destination, but they seem as popular ad one.

A few weeks ago there was a thread on here about being annoyed by people writing 0208 phone numbers as 020 8 (or vice versa - can't remember the complaint). Today it's queues at the tip.

Most boring thread ever? It's a toss-up.

How should you dispose of empty paint cans then, Lying? I just put mine in the bin, I'm rapidly realising that's not what I should have done.

Our tip is easy to use, has decent opening hours and is usually not too busy but we still have an increase in fly tipping in the area. I volunteer at our local community centre and we have huge problems and expense (that as a charity we can't afford) removing the crap people dump in our car park. There was a sharp increase when the bin collection changed to alternating recycling / refuse every week rather than weekly refuse, fortnightly recycling. This leads me to conclude that a lot of people round here are just lazy bastards with no respect for the local area. The one thing you never see left behind though is any scrap metal as we have scrap metal men still going round in their vans shouting out.

Stratter5, your council should have a website showing the HWRCs and what they take on each one. Some have bins for paint/creosote/varnish, etc.

If they don't, best advice is, if you have more than a half tin left over, see if you can pass it on to a neighbour/friend/scout hut/community hall to use. If it's less than that, leave the lid off so that the paint hardens then you can put it in your household bin.

Wonky... your council's environmental health team, if they're picking up the refuse left, should be on top of checking for identifying addresses and prosecuting. Lazy people are also generally stupid people.

It is a problem, I know, some people - as you say - just don't care.

wonkylegs · 30/06/2015 12:43

I don't know what you do with completely empty tins of paint but www.communityrepaint.org.uk can tell you where to recycle partially used ones

wonkylegs · 30/06/2015 12:51

Lying - unfortunately the council haven't been overly helpful as its owned by the community association and therefore private land, and as they are under resourced and over stretched they aren't great . But you are right about some of them being stupid, we have CCTV around the perimeter of the building and this has meant our fab community police officer has gone round for a quiet chat with those stupid enough to get caught on it.

KUNGFUPANDA

One Saturday morning my DH and I were doing the first of about ten trips to the tip. It took us 15 minutes to get into the tip, went to the end for the rubble bin, waited patiently for the person using the parking space until when she had finished her tipping decided to show her children what went in what bin, children aren't allowed out of the car ! Then she went to help her friend do her tipping whilst the children ran up and down, then the Mums stood by their cars to chat. At this point we lost our patience and asked her how long they was going to be. They couldn't have gone any slower. I bet the people in the cars that was now 1/2 mile down the road was pleased with them as well !
