to wonder why people complain about noise

i can understand it can be annoying. but i thought kids playing and adult having a get together was quite normal. and in the summer time its more likely to go on late because of the lighter nights it feels earlyer than it is. and our summer does not last that long. when i was a kid partys/get togethers went on till 2-3am not just our family others to. now it seems 10pm is late.

i dont understand point of the bass if it distorts the music :/

i never knew making a complaint made it difficult to sell a house thats madness.

I roll my eyes and grumble a bit if loud parties go on past midnight.

I get more pissed off if they are garden parties - I think if your party goes on past midnight, either move it into the house or turn off the music.

I am immensely cheesed off with our neighbours, who like to party EVERY weekend in the summer, and go on all through the night. I work ruddy hard all week, and it doesn't seem too much to ask to be able to sleep at the weekend.

sashh · 29/06/2015 03:02

On Saturday I was crying, my neighbours had been playing music for 7 hours solid. Their garden backs on to mine, the living room and bedroom are at the back, I couldn't watch TV because I couldn't get the volume over the sound of their music. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't read because it was too loud and the tone was actually hurting (I have some processing problems).

It was one of the hottest days of the year, I had all doors and windows closed.

I should not have to use earplugs in my own house to read a book.

I should be able to sit in my own garden, or in my own house with a window open.

lostoldlogin · 29/06/2015 03:10

I do not give a fuck about noise - never have, never will. First world problem extraordinaire all this "oh my neighbours are having their annual garden party till 2am" hand wringing.

Who cares. Let them enjoy it and get over it.

DooWhop · 29/06/2015 03:14

I suffer with insomnia. I've moved to escape opposite neighbour who partied until midnight with all the windows open, left noisily in taxis then returned around 4-5am to carry it on. Every week, not only at weekends.
It ruined my life, windows closed all year round, dreading going to bed in case it started etc
It's vvvvvvvvvvvvvvU to be noisy after 11pm.

lostoldlogin · 29/06/2015 03:20

I also have insomnia. That is part of the reason I dont care I think. Either way I dont sleep well!

Redglitter · 29/06/2015 03:23

If it was a one off I'd ignore it but if it was a regular occurrence particularly on nights when my alarm goes off at 5am then I'd most certainly complain

nemo81 · 29/06/2015 05:31

I've had two weekends (both nights) ruined by people round here and their "get togethers". Sorry i don't want to hear crap music blaring out until all hours and adults who can't handle their drink shouting, screaming or arguing as loud as they can until 3/4am. Want a party, hire a hall.

I'd love to sit in my garden on an evening to read a book peacefully but nope, all i can hear is the above.

Bunbaker · 29/06/2015 06:58

lostoldlogin I don't think you realise how distressing it is when you are desperately tired and can't sleep because you have noisy neighbours who have parties every week. I can only assume that you have never had to put up with the kind of noise some of the posters on here have, you are a very deep sleeper or are hard of hearing.

Are you one of these people that are noisy and thoughtless?

Pipbin · 29/06/2015 07:09

LostOld it's fair enough that you don't find it a problem. You do understand why people find it a problem I guess though.

Millionprammiles · 29/06/2015 08:18

It really is worth complaining to the Council, we've found them quite helpful in the end (and you don't necessarily have to declare it when you sell the property if the issue is resolved. Only ongoing/unresolved noise disputes need to be declared).

ethelb · 29/06/2015 08:36

You know what they say, if you have no annoying neighbours, its you!

FishCanFly · 29/06/2015 08:52

I can live with noise, but sits the smells that irritate me the most -- especially when somebody tries to burn down their bbq

lostoldlogin · 29/06/2015 17:21

I have just always lived in busy, loud cities I suppose. Perhaps I am used to it . I think "distressing" is a bit of a stretch. I did say that if it was all the time I could understand - but as a one off? I live somewhere noisy all the time - I don't mind at all but I am used to it. I honestly can't understand why people cant deal with an OCCASIONAL disturbance to their sleep.

ghostspirit · 29/06/2015 18:31

lost im the same does not bother me at all. its noisy where i live to. i guess that would be the same for others to. im noisy so are my neighbours and i live on a busy main road. sometimes i have only had 2 hours sleep im ok next day. i guess everyone is different

I dint generally mind but our neighbours had a party one saturday, they gave me about 3 hrs notice knowing DH works shifts) he was on an early Sunday)
Our walls are so thin you can hear each other cough but they had s live band, loud music until 4am and were using really bad language all night.
Not one room in our house was usable, even the attic bedroom was so loud you couldn't hear the tv.
It was horrible, only the bsby slept and dd1 was having a sleepover so I needed to apologise to the mum the next day for her lack of sleep and all the swearing Id heard.

The next day I was up at 6 blasting the music and allowed dd to go on her trampoline then went out and left stereo on.
We had a shit day feeling tired and poor dh had to drive 10 miles to work after 3 hrs sleep.
Id have liked some notice so we could have moved out!!

kali110 · 29/06/2015 20:02

Maybe some people have to get up early for work?? I used to get up at 4am for work and work would not accept the excuse that i couldn't do my job properly because people were being inconsiderate and being noisy, especially as i could have injured myself.
Now i have health problems. When i get little sleep it makes my pain a lot worse. I would never make noise after 10, i try to be considerate of my neighbours.
