About bridesmaids shoes?

Getting married two weeks on Saturday and am worried I'm being bridezilla-ish, so just want to check before I reply to this:

DP's two nieces are being bridesmaids. A few weeks ago I told them the sort of shoes I wanted them to get and left it to the older one/ SIL to sort out, and said I'd pay them back. SIL's just emailed me to show me the ones they've chosen and older DN's are fine but I really don't like younger DN's... WIBU to email back to say I don't really like them, and if they're the ones she really wants she can wear them for the reception but not the ceremony, and suggest alternatives? I really don't want to be dictatorial and it seems ridiculous to be getting het up about a seven year-old's footwear choice, but I really don't like them. I will obviously pay SIL back regardless, and at the end of the day it's up to her/DN! Just worried I'm BU to object!

All wedding photos date. No matter how hard you try.

In fact, people wouldn't even have bridesmaids atall because the only purpose of them is to stand around looking pretty isn't it?

Really? I thought the purpose of child bridesmaids was to have family involved in the wedding. Different strokes, I guess.

I am with the "nobody will notice or care" people.

What if she had a funny shaped foot and could only wear trainers or something?
(IT STILL WOULDNT MATTER AT ALL!)

Perhaps ballet shoes wouldn't fit? My dd's and I can't wear any type of ballet shoes as our feet are too narrow. Saying that, if I was your sil I would have sent you a photo or link to check the shoes first as they are very different to what you suggested!

We have resolution! Lovely SIL was predictably lovely and unbothered about my enthusiasm failure, and I have established the reason for the slightly bizarre choice was that almost all bridesmaids type shoes in DN's size are sold out what with it being wedding season Hmm. I have located and purchased a couple of pairs of white flowery sandals to be tried out on the day - hopefully DN will like/fit one of them but if not then gladiator sandals it is.

I have to say I don't know why I'm so bothered about this. I got all three bridesmaids to pick their own dresses and am actually fairly chilled about everything else - I haven't decided what I'm going to do with my hair etc and will probably wing it on the day.

I just REALLY hate those sandals Blush.

Thank you all very much though for suggestions and provision of a grip! Much appreciated!

If it's any consolation, I've just come on here to say I've just seen them in Tesco. They really are very inoffensive in the flesh (pleather?!)

Tesco Click and Collect is very good though. You could order and pick up some white pumps by Sunday.

Glad it's sorted amicably.

It was a very heavy style to wear with a knee length dress for a formal occasion.

MrsHathaway · 26/06/2015 23:42

I don't think it would look heavy over white frilly ankle socks.

But then my DM made a stole for the vicar to match my wedding dress (same silk and embroidery) so I'm totally on board with coordination and temporary insanity. He wore it because (1) he's high church and likes lots of special vestments, particularly ones that actually fit his tall frame (2) he's nice like that and (3) he got to keep it.

Ah that's good.

I was thinking that even if she couldn't get white ballet pumps it was perhaps odd that she hadn't got white shoes of some kind or at least white sandals!

I like the sandals the little girl picked out (though they looked better in white). I'm sure she'll look lovely whatever she wears.

Thanks Vix! She was embroidering the dress already, y'see.

Tangent: lovely vicar married lovely bridesmaid. I am godmother to their son. The wedding stole is still in his liturgical wardrobe and has made an appearance now at many weddings.

It's your wedding and you're paying for it. No nobody else cares but it's your wedding and you're paying for it. As long as they don't hurt her, it's really besides the point if she likes them or not. I'd reimburse her but I would also buy some white shoes like you originally asked for and politely insist she wear those instead and the sandals are a thank you present to be worn in the evening if she's that bothered.

My feet ache just looking at those sandals, but then I suppose I'm not seven!

Oh that is lovely MrsHathaway, so it may go on being part of other weddings for decades, and then get handed on! How romantic!

Seems a bit odd that SIL couldn't find white ballet pumps. They've got masses at Amazon, and Marks has silver children's versions.
