Prep school

So this is a genuine AIBU, it is NOT a state school v prep school debate.

Anyway, last week my DH and I went to the introduction morning for our DS at his prep school. The school is fab, the teachers amazing, the kids looked happy, and were polite and friendly.

The parents though... is it wrong that I am now having regrets because when chatting to the other mums there were none that I thought "ooo we are on the same wave length etc" Also the school operates a pick up drop off policy for traffic reasons which means there will be little school chatter, and as a SAHM I was kind of excited about making new friends and bonding at the school gate.

So AIBU for being a bit down on my DS's new school because of what I will be getting out of it, when it looks like it will be an amazing school for him?!?

Don't worry. You'll soon be bombarded with more fundraisers, socials and goodness only knows what than you can shake a stick at, and will be spending plenty of time with other parents if you want to.

Thank you Christina - I am hoping so! I just feel a little bit lost (am pretty sure it was supposed to be my DS who was lost but he was off having a whale of a time!)

Yes, give them a chance. It's quite possible that everyone was on their best behaviour and not relaxing and being themselves.

Fingers crossed, I don't know what I expected... I just seem to have come away thinking "oh no" and prior to this I wasvery excited! My DS is beaming...

Your interactions with other parents will depend on your Ds's interactions with his new classmates and on how much he throws himself or is thrown into school activities.

You may find there's a birthday party every week. Or not.

You may find yourself pitch side watching him chase a ball twice a week - or not. Concerts, swimming galas, art exhibitions ... All opportinities to get to know the parent community - if the school is the sort that makes sure every child takes part.
