The same product is available at several different prices in the same supermarket.

not talking g about value vs premium range. but different brands being cheaper than even supermarket versions just because of the aisle they are in.

I'm. currently sat on several cans of tomatoes and chick peas that were on offer because of eid. working out at 25 pence a can. round the corner I'd pay twice that. For a supermarket own brand.

I bought coconut milk yesterday. own brand was literally twice the price of the version in the ethnic food aisle. lentils for example, buy in the health food bit and you pay one price. buy in the regular aisles and your talking say 2-3 pounds for 500g. go to ethnic aisle and I get 2kg bags fir like 4 pounds. why ?.ive tried them all no one brand appears any better than any other yet are several different prices depending on whether you go health food or ethnic aisles.

just why.

wishes I had pantry to stockpile the rice and spices bargains

Anyone who buys the expensive one is crazy

Well I buy farirtrade, organic wherever I can . I guess I'm crazy to care about the environment and the exploitation of 3rd world workers and our own producers. IMO if people can afford it they should think about broader issues [ducks flames] Grin

"Anyone who buys the expensive one is crazy"

"Well I buy farirtrade, organic wherever I can . "

That's a different issue. There's no reason to believe that expensive lentils (unless specially marked as fairtrade or whatever) are more ethical than cheap ones.

I have often found Quorn products vary hugely in price depending on where they are in the supermarket. You can often get a larger pack of the 'chicken' pieces for less depending on whether you go to the chilled or frozen section.

Also tubs of Vaseline will vary in price depending on whether it's in the baby section or skin care section.

I am concerned that op is sitting on tins of vegetables. It can't be comfy.

Well we don't know do we ? DoughDoe for example, there's nothing on a pack of frozen prawns describing the conditions of the slave labourers who produce them is there?

My point re. "Anyone who buys the expensive one is crazy" was regarding things that are identical and that includes being fairtrade and organic (or not). In the items I referred to there was no difference. I also choose fairtrade/free range/organic, and am happy to pay more. Obviously I was comparing like with like. I'm not stupid.

I'm really peeved now. Also miffed. Angry

Gruntfuttock · 25/06/2015 00:27

In fact I actually said "In all cases it is 100% pure organic coconut oil", so it was clear I was comparing like with like. Of course if there are differences I would expect different prices.

Angry again.

ppeatfruit · 25/06/2015 10:41

Sorry Blush I guess that maybe the JAR the coconut oil is in cost the shop\producer more or whatever. Yes you're right if it takes longer to look and someone's in a rush though then they pay more for it.
