Following from the other thread about sorting the house out, how do you keep your home paperwork in order ?

We don't have a spare room and the 'office' part of the house is a corner of the living room where the main PC sits on a corner unit. I'm struggling to keep it under control though and paperwork in inevitably ends up in piles on the dining table or moved to the side.

So how do you all do it ?

I scan it all and then shred/burn it. It doesn't take that long as I only scan what I think may be important - vast majority is junk.

I keep mine in a large box on the bottom shelf in the study and go through it every 6 months throwing out dated stuff

OK.

I have a four drawer filing cabinet! I got it for twenty quid and it lives in the downstairs cloakroom. It looks quite funky.

For pending items, I have a lever arch filethat lives on my desk. That means I don't have to go to the filing cabinet that often.

Works for me.

I just stick it all in a box file in the cupboard.

What with so many things being paperless now, it's never been easier imo.
