to serve tea to the builders in this mug?

I have got builders in.
They have been here a week and have broken 2 mugs.
No problem - I completely understand that these things happen on a building site.
I don't want them moving on to the good china - so - I went to the charity shop and bought 3 mugs.
The lady wrapped them in paper for me and we had a nice chat about what a bargain they were.
I have just unwrapped them and to my horror, one of them has some writing underneath.
It says "I AM A TWAT".
I am shocked , but the family think it is highly amusing and insist the builders will enjoy using it.

No wonder it was only 50p.

Will it offend their sensibilities or amuse them?

Just explain to them - they might find it funny, they might not. Letting them know is better than one of them thinking you wrote it

I wouldn't use it but, as a minimum, I would explain it as the previous poster suggested. They may not be offended by the language but anyone would be a bit put out if they thought it was a message aimed at them.

I'd just put the tray down and point to offending mug and say "that one has 'i'm a twat' written on the bottom" and leave them to fight it out amongst themselves.

I have a Modern Toss Periodic Table of Swearing mug, which i always run past builders, plumbers, electricians before making a drink just in case as it is a little on the offensive side ( if there is no alternative mug available)

My husband is a builder. I've just asked him. He's said that he and absolutely every other builder he knows would think you were an absolute legend if you served them tea in that.

But you should also know they will probably nick it as a trophy.
