To be really irritated when someone insists that the Bra Guru method of measuring is wrong?

On another forum a lady is insisting on adding inches to her band measurement and advises others to do so.

She measures 33 and wears a 36. Says that a 32 or 34 cuts into her but this this must be because she's wearing too small a cup if she's adding inches to her band measurement.

Head desk.

Madwoman but the fat has come from the breasts...it's been moved by badly fitting bras

keeptothewhiteline · 22/06/2015 10:05

Even around to the back?

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 10:15

Keep depending on how small the bra is, it can. Look at the link above

keeptothewhiteline · 22/06/2015 10:19

How does breast tissue end up at shoulder blades?

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 10:23

Keep the wires push it outwards and the band offers no support so depending on the shape of the wearer it can end up being squished really far back. It also depends how much, if it's only a bit then it won't likely end up there but if loads of it is being squished it can end up round the sides and to the back

It'd be easier to explain in a picture lol

Garlick · 22/06/2015 10:32

Breast tissue is fat. If you wear a 'corrective' corset every day, the fat round your middle will eventually move - as will your internal organs. Stands to reason the analogous thing will happen if you wear tit-squashing bras.

That said, I'm a lot fatter now that when I was a genuine 36C. I'm a 36FF now, so the fat I'm moving into the cups is most likely back fat.
I'm not complaining!

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 10:34

Garlick exactly! If you look at this picture you can see the wires are on her breast tissue. Over time that will get squashed and pushed out to the side.

The Bra Guru method doesn't cause dents, overhang, etc - completely the opposite for me.

I used to wear a 36DD, after M&S fitted me very badly. I'm a size 8/10.

Now a 30F or FF, depending on the bra, and am so much more comfortable. No quad boob, no overhang, and a smooth shape under clothes.

The thing about people with low body fat not being able to breathe is rubbish too - I can breathe just fine in a 30" back and am pretty slim...

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 10:43

Running I don't get that either - I'm normally a size 8/10 and wear a 30 just fine, in fact still wearing 30s at 30 weeks pregnant. Pretty sure I can breathe!

keeptothewhiteline · 22/06/2015 10:47

I still don't buy it.
I actually measure 35" under my breasts. Bravissimo wanted me in a 30" bra- how can that be right?

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 10:48

Keep if you measure 35" and they wanted s 30" band that's not right. Unless you're measuring very loosely. All I can say is the fitter was off. I'd have recommended a 36 or 34 for those measurements

keeptothewhiteline · 22/06/2015 10:53

It was Bravissimo who measured me.
They started with a 34" bra, then kept getting smaller ones- I don't know why they even bothered with the tape measure. I ended up with a 32" bra, although they insisted that the 30" one was a better fit, even though I was squashed so hard that I had bulges of skin and fat ( and I an very slim and toned) all around the bra.
Hideous. I ended up returning the bra when my skin became lacerated.

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 10:56

Keep that's very unusual, I've never had a bad experience there and neither has anyone I know. Unfortunately your fitter sounds crap. If you definitely measure 35" under then a 34 sounds right. Usually we only recommend going below the measurement drastically if you have lots of squish or extremely heavy boobs! So it does sound like the fitter was wrong.

Worth checking the cupsize though as the volume might have been right

Goshthatsspicy · 22/06/2015 10:58

I'm 29 under. The 30 back kills me. So does a 32 (most of the time) l'm really slim, with prominent ribs.
They always dig in my armpit.
I really get, and like the guru method, l just have no idea why it doesn't work for me?
The method tells me l need a 32 e, I've had to stick with 34dd.For comfort.

keeptothewhiteline · 22/06/2015 10:58

THe fitter did tell me not to do anything strenous in my new bra.
I am not actually sure what bras are meant for.

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 11:03

Gosh do you have flared ribs? Basically a very v shaped rib cage?

Keep that's very unusual. And not something I've heard of. Bras are to provide support and then the rest is preference - some want enhanced boobs, some want to look sexy, some people want to feel secure...lots of things!

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 11:05

Also gosh you could be choosing bras that are too high in the cup...I get armpit digging because I have a short torso so bras designed for taller boobs end up stabbing me. I have to pick bras with low sides

Goshthatsspicy · 22/06/2015 11:06

Lash, l will Google.
I do lots of pilates, but can't imagine that would make much difference? Thanks, l'm going to see what it looks like.

Goshthatsspicy · 22/06/2015 11:09

No, l don't have that type of rib cage.
But, l'm going to take your advice on cup shape. The cup is almost (always) in my armpit! Thank you.

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 11:10

Gosh I wouldn't have thought it would be Pilates, sometimes musicians can have ribs that expand a lot which can affect it, never heard of that with Pilates but I'm not an expert on that. I wonder if the same thing could happen?

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 11:11

Gosh try Ewa Michalak bras! They're wonderful for coming low under the arms. They're a bit expensive but very well made. Bravissimo also have some styles that come low if you don't want to try ordering online

Goshthatsspicy · 22/06/2015 11:13

When l look at my ribs, they look very ordinary. My body is too, l'm not going to give up! Grin l know the 34 is wrong as it doesn't sit tight enough under bust.

LashesandLipstick · 22/06/2015 11:14

You could try a 32 with an extender, basically means you can get used to a firmer band because the extender will make it a 34

Goshthatsspicy · 22/06/2015 11:19

Okay. Thanks lashes very helpful. Smile

Not unheard-of :) Pilates requires deep breathing control which is basically the same as a singer's. Swimming expands the lungs too.
