To have expected to have heard from school re ds starting reception by now?

Not sure if my expectations are too high and I know I am impatient but feeling a bit disappointed that we haven't even had a letter from the school yet.

Place at our first choice school was confirmed by the council and that's it. I only know one other child who is due to start, they also hasn't heard anything, so don't think its that we've been forgotten about.

I can't help wondering if its an indication that the school was a bad choice. IABU to feel this way, is it quite normal to have had no communication by now?

I know 12 children all due to start reception at different schools in September and they have all had welcome packs, some have even started introduction sessions, meetings etc.

I didn't want to seem pushy so haven't called them yet. It's a foundation unit with a preschool that ds didn't attend, so the majority will already go there, maybe that's why.

Probably a daft question but have you accepted the place?

Ring the school explaining your circumstances. I don't think it's necessarily a bad sign, although I do find it a little surprising. There may be staff changes etc which are delaying matters (eg not sending details until they can say for definite who the teacher will be).

Yes sent the form off to accept his place offer. I know someone else due to start and they haven't heard anything either, so think it's just the way they must do things.

That said when dd started school by now there had been a letter, a parent's evening and a session for the children. 2 terms later it was in special measures so not sure how much of an indicator this is of all being well

I would ring the school and ask if they are sending anything out. Ours only got confirmation of who will be attending recently.

I would phone them they may have not received your acceptance or misplaced it. We have already had reception parents induction and children visiting reception class.

I felt exactly this way - other schools had arranged taster days, parents welcome meetings etc but not a peep from ours.

I wondered if there had been a number of appeals (or people who'd had their place withdrawn as they'd not been able to prove their address) as its a popular school, so this had slowed everything down.

I phoned the school last week to ask about any meetings they'd organised, then had a letter in the post this week. Might be worth ringing?

I haven't heard anything yet either. But dd2 will be my third dc going to the school and it was almost end of them before I heard anything from school with the other dcs. I know from asking dc2's nursery teachers that class lists haven't been done yet as not everyone offered a place has accepted / declined yet.

I'll start to panic if it gets to the last week of term and I haven't heard anything.

If you're worried you've been missed out you could contact the school and ask.

I was worrying the same thing, but dd1 only got her letter on Tuesday this week. She goes to the pre-school attached and they were given directly to the children to give to parents. I imagine if I was waiting for it in the post it would not have arrived yet.

Lack of communication from a school? You'd better get used to it

On a serious note, I would ring them and ask when you can expect anything. Most schools have either had a parent meeting or a settling in session for new children at the least by now.

Can't help the doubts creeping in though about picking the wrong school, but I guess it's normal to worry anyway. Seems such a big step starting school!

I'd leave it till 10am to call if you can as the office is usually busy at 9am dealing with late children, dinner money and parent of sick children calling. You're more likely to get a quick response at 10am ime.

We got our first communication earlier this week.
DS1 is already at the school, and the communications never give you much warning, but it is 1000 times better than the preschool DS1 was at.
I love the school, all the staff are great, and DS1 is thriving there.

So the last minuite communication bugs me, but otherwise the school is great, and we are very, very happy there. Don't rule the school out because they work on a different time scale to you (tho I did get an appology from the headmaster when I got home to discover DS1 needed a bike in school the next day - I had a 8am meeting, and gates aren't unlocked til 8.45)

I called and they said to call in, so we've been and feeling much better now.

Welcome packs are going out in a few weeks and a meeting after that, but we can go in anytime for a play.
