to let DD dye her hair?

Amongst other things

DD (13, about to turn 14) dyed her hair at the weekend. A fairly nondescript semi-perm light brown and posted a pic of herself on Facebook

We don't live near the inlaws, but they've obviously seen the pic on FB and last night MiL felt the need to phone DH to tells us how we're going wrong as she's worried about DD. If we're not careful DD will end up "pregnant by the time she's 16" if we don't start being stricter with her and "all the family agree"

I think MiL is being ridiculous, but she has made me wonder. DD is, on the whole, a decent kid. She has her moments, but is generally nice, polite, kind, behaves and works hard at school. I've always picked my battles and things like hair, clothes, make up, etc have never been on my list of things to get het up about, but perhaps we are a bit free and easy with her.

I never feel entirely confident in my parenting choices, the older they get the harder I find it.

Ooooh, hair chalk!

Seriously, you need to tell your MIL she has a call, the 1950s want their attitude back.

You've made me order hair chalk from eBay now ! I definitely have no intention of becoming a grandparent!

I first dyed my hair at 11 I think - my mum didn't want to let me but actually my nan convinced her. Apparently in her day she (my nan) had peroxide blonde hair and she used to put a rinse in to match her dress. Pink, green etc. This was all the rage apparently. My nan is nearly 90.

Can you get a wig that's short and brightly coloured? Post a photo of your DD with that on FB and wait for the pearl clutching Grin

I really wanted pillar box red when I was a teen. When I was 19 I finally went a bright colour (wasn't allowed because of school/college until I moved out!), I went for purple but it looked shit within a few weeks :(

Hairchalk WARNING a mumsnetter got some for her dd th it ended up all over her chair and carpet i dont know if she got the stain out

Tinklewinkle · 17/06/2015 09:41

Yes, we've got a stain on her bedroom carpet from hair chalks.

It didn't really work on her hair, just made a mess on the carpet. Mind you, the hair chalk stain is slowly being covered by make up stains

I'll have a chat with my hairdresser about the red for summer.

We've now put gran on a limited view on DD's Facebook profile.

Thanks!

Dd1 got red highlights at 14 they were lovely

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 17/06/2015 09:56

Twinklewinkle why not go for the coloured clip in ones? She can be a bold as she wants them but with no damage to her hair, she can change them about too, they're not very expensive

PeaceOfWildThings · 17/06/2015 10:00

Tell your MIL your DD won't get pregnant at 16 because she's a lesbian. Have a camera ready.
