www.gumtree.com/p/live-out-nanny-babysitting-jobs/-live-out-au-pair-to-look-after-my-autistic-son/1118133617

First of all live out au pairs don't exist, secondly this job doesn't even come close to paying minimum wage and the poster sounds quite menacing! Please tell me this was a Mumsnetter with too much time on their hairy hands who posted this as a joke?!

Being fair, I don't think (or at least this is my hope) that the 'pocket money' he specifies is actually the amount he's paying someone who takes the job. I think it's the amount of money that's been put aside for the various activities and food shopping this person will need to pay for.

Becauseicannes · 15/06/2015 12:52

I thought 'pocket money' was what allowance they would be given per week for expenses/entertaining child not the actual salary!
Sounds like a hideous person I hope he gets reported.

fiveacres · 15/06/2015 12:53

I think it is - he calls it pocket money!

PenguinBollards · 15/06/2015 12:53

Maybe we should send him a link to this thread Wink

SunnyBaudelaire · 15/06/2015 12:54

I think he calls it 'pocket money' because he has heard that 'au pairs' get 'pcoket money' - what he doesnt realise it that they also get a room and board and no bills!

chippednailvarnish · 15/06/2015 12:54

Nabootique it got deleted as I amongst many others started lobbing various sweet tasting breads at certain posters!

I was shocked that regular posters could even consider around £4 ph in anyway acceptable.

Lunastarfish · 15/06/2015 12:55

He wants a slave! I expect the slave also has to pay for the swimming/cinema out of their pocket money.....

KoalaDownUnder · 15/06/2015 12:56

I'm interested to find out what a "trail month" is. I'm guessing you need to be able to hike with a broom clenched between your arse cheeks, sweeping as you go.

Grin Grin Grin

QuintShhhhhh · 15/06/2015 12:56

A naive girlfriend might be cheaper - but he might have to share her bed.....

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 15/06/2015 12:57

I hope no naive person applies to this ad Sad

cedricsneer · 15/06/2015 12:58

But why would he specify its for a 6 day week? Sounds more like a euphemism for salary to me.

Also, wtf is with the all male house hold liking well cooked food?! Cos us birds like to eat nasty foodConfused. The whole thing is weird - especially as you can imagine his ideal applicant - a submissive woman who will cater to his every whim and not answer back.

PennilynLott · 15/06/2015 12:58

Even if you wanted this job, there's no way you could live on that money, even sharing a room.

Do you think the dad actually works 6 days a week or just fancied Saturdays off?

SanityClause · 15/06/2015 12:58

I don't think the job itself sounds too awful. Its not a 12 hour day, it's a split shift. So the person starts at 7, gets the boy to school, then does a bit of housework, and has time off until 2:30, when they must pick up from school, and do the afternoon and evening childcare, and cooking. Lots of people work six days a week. It's certainly not an au pair position, he's advertising, though (even if it was live in).

The capitals are a bit weird, but I think he is just trying to emphasise the things that are important. The child does have special needs, afterall.

The money is ridiculously low for the job, though. I know someone whose DD is nannying for a few month until her contract at a school starts. She is earning £600 per week (before tax and NI). And when I have employed nannies, I paid extra for any evening babysitting.

PenguinBollards · 15/06/2015 12:58

I can't stop reading it, it gets funnier every time:

'This is an all-male household. We like well-cooked food and we like it cooked for us by a dipshit skivvy who feels privileged to service our needs for an illegal pittance otherwise THE CAPITALS WILL MAKE ANOTHER APPEARANCE.'

He really does sound like the slave master employer from hell.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 15/06/2015 13:00

Ah. I get it.
You all missed the last line. Sense of humour is required.
We all missed the fact it is a big joke!

Sparklingbrook · 15/06/2015 13:01

I have read it twice now with all the following faces Confused Shock Hmm Sad

chippednailvarnish · 15/06/2015 13:01

I've reported it, so let's see if Gumtree actually do anything...

Surely not. Why would you specify the money for treats but not the actualy salary? Confused

Gimme a C

Gimme a U

Gimme a N ...

Pumpkinpositive · 15/06/2015 13:03

I reported it too. Smile

I looked at his posting profile to see if there were any more such gems but this appears to be the only ad he's posted.

Let's hope it's the last. I wouldn't want to work for such a deluded wanker no matter what the salary he offers is.

Sparklingbrook · 15/06/2015 13:04

Shame it's not like totaljobs where you see how many applications there have been. i bet he's been snowed under....

Minifingers9 · 15/06/2015 13:05

I've got a 9 year old ds with autism. What I find shocking is the complete failure to show any interest in an applicant's knowledge and experience of supporting children with special needs and specifically autism. That clearly comes a very long way below him/her having cooking skills....

Sad
LeopardIsTheNewBlack · 15/06/2015 13:05

What he needs/ wants/ is looking for is a nanny who can deal with an autistic child, a housekeeper / cook and a babysitter. What he is offering in exchange isn't even sufficient for an au pair. If his son needs help showering and has to be watched at all times especially when crossing roads this man is really minimizing his son's needs. I pay my teenage babysitter $10 an hour to babysit my 9 year old DS and provided dinner/ money to order pizza and only expect her to play with DS .
Seriously I don't know if this man is clueless or if this is a joke.

OP posts:
Higgle · 15/06/2015 13:05

I've emailed him, pointing out (politely) what a twunt he is.

ActiviaYoghurt · 15/06/2015 13:05

He needs to wake up to the fact that he isn't even paying minimum wage.

The only thing I would say is that I am with him on the cooking, I advertised for a Nanny for two days, (paying much better than this though!) and everyone said that they could cook however my Nanny really can't cook. Her idea of cooking is beans on toast, she has ruined a few saucepans by having gas on full, never turned down to simmer etc.

She claimed she could cook, she can't. Maybe I should have put some shouty capitals in my job ad?

PuppyMonkey · 15/06/2015 13:07

I might apply but OH NO I CAN'T COOK.

(I think he mentioned you have to be able to cook).
