Friday and Monday

The senior school my ds goes to has an inset day next Friday and on Monday. I expect a few inset days but to do it like this is annoying especially since they have only had a week off not that long ago.

I always think by having inset days vary from school to school, it makes parents think they are having to cover additional days off like this OP does, when in reality, each school will have exactly the same number of days in school, so parents have exactly the same number of days when the school is closed.

Now, if all inset days were in a block at the start or end of the school summer holidays, most parents probably wouldn't realise that only part of the time off was holidays and the rest teacher training, and it might be easier for parents to cover by booking an extra week of childcare, lathough if you rely on help from family, 5 separate days spread over the whole year are often easier for family to agree to help out with compared to a whole week, and it would make arranging training a lot harder.

Do you need to take unexpected time off to stay home with your kids?

School is not childcare. Teachers need to be trained some parents really need to wise up. There are some excellent points in this thread.

If there were no INSET days, you would still have to cover those 5 days as the children would not be in school anyway. Nor would the teachers! Result!

write the INSET days on the calendar and in your Diary (and on FB events if need be) - that way you will remember

Our schools sends home weekly emails with all the terms dates on them - every week

I am a working single parents - I manage - just be organised

My son's school has inset days on Friday and Monday of the week after next which is great as we're going to centerparcs and saving money by not going during the 6 week holidays.
