anyone else find that folic acid tablets are making them sick?

I'm nearly 8 weeks pregnant. Didn't take folic acid pre-conception as wasn't overly planned. started taking it when I found out and started feeling sick 2 days later, about the 4 week mark.

I went away and forgot to pack the tablets and was somewhere I couldn't replace them so didn't take them for 5 days week 6- 7 and I stopped feeling sick.

started taking them when I got back and feel sick again!

anyone else find this? obviously I know about morning sickness etc but it seems a huge coincidence to me?

heya - Folic acid didnt make me sick (on it for 5+ years) but Pregnacare (the one you take once you are pregnant) made me so so ill!

dont know if that helps? but try the generic 400mg of plain folic acid?

hope you feel better soon!

Iron tablets make me feel sick well at least the dose the Dr gives me. I tend to take one a day sometimes 2. If I take 3 feel to sick to eat which think does more harm than a reduced dose

cozietoesie · 10/06/2015 13:32

How much are you taking?

JustHavinABreak · 10/06/2015 13:39

I found the same. I was already feeling pretty horrendous but they made me hurl! My doctor advised me to come off them for a while and wait til the 12 week mark had passed when typically morning sickness eases off. In my case it didn't and I ended up with severe HG but in the early days they definitely made me worse. That said, I am not a doctor so please don't follow my advice without speaking to your own doctor first.

oops, this was supposed to be in chat - sorry!

I'm just taking the standard dose atm, although my midwife wants to up it due to the fact I am fat curvy. it's the standard basic folic acid from the chemist, not a pregnancy specific one.

I had iron tablets in my last pregnancy and those made me so sick I couldn't take them anymore.

If it's any help I lived on Ginger Nut biscuits! Couldn't stand them before or since but they made the HG tolerable so for 9 months they were my best friend!!! And massive congrats Flowers

thanks justhavinabreak - I mainlined in all things ginger in my last pregnancy (twins which gave me borderline HG).

the 5 days I didn't take the folic acid I felt basically normal - as in could forget I was pregnant at all type normal! I hate feeling sick!!

They made me feel really sick. So I took them at night so I wouldn't notice. Grin
