Adults wearing Disney clothes- enjoy the films at home if you like, nothing wrong with that, just don't splash it all over your body!

As a cashier, people who take ages to sort out their purse after they've paid/their 89 coupons/the 30 separate transactions they want to do because their mum must pay separately for her £1 item... I feel so sorry for the people queuing behind them who are being held up but inevitably it's seen as my fault for being "slow!"

DoJo · 08/06/2015 11:48

Excessively negative people. Grin

sparkysparkysparky · 08/06/2015 11:50

Used tea bags in the sink .
People on mumsnet who type "mom" instead of "mum" or "pissed" when they mean "pissed off" and who aren't American.
Ok auto correct may be to blame for the pissed mom thing. But there is no excuse for the used teabags

susanstryingterm · 08/06/2015 11:53

People who think saying 'don't worry, he's just being friendly' excuses them allowing their dog to bother or frighten strangers in public places.

DoJo · 08/06/2015 11:53

People on mumsnet who type "mom" instead of "mum"...and who aren't American.

I may as well be the first to point out that 'mom' is widely used in parts of England as well as in the US, and those who have grown up with it will defend their right to use it to the death. Don't say you haven't been warned...Wink

CremeEggThief · 08/06/2015 11:55

Indeed, Little caf. I hate wet surfaces. Ugh!

sparkysparkysparky · 08/06/2015 11:58

Thank you, dojo. I have never come across it (mam, I know about, my dd used to call me mammy ). I therefore withdraw my Mom aversion but the used tea bags and being pissed when you're angry not drunk : they are staying.

Soduthen116 · 08/06/2015 12:07

sparky I live in the midlands and it's mom here. Seriously don't you know there are other dialects apart from yours in Britain? Are you really that insular?

Soduthen116 · 08/06/2015 12:08

Grin used tea bags now with you on that one!

theDudesmummy · 08/06/2015 12:12

Someone did mention travelators earlier: this is my biggest hate: people who stand still on the travelator at the airport. It is there to get people moving along FASTER not so you can just stand there like a lazy lump. WALK! (obviously disabled/elderly people etc excepted). I get furious (but, being British, never say anything of course!)

sparkysparkysparky · 08/06/2015 12:17

I was warned, I suppose, and apologise. I'm not insular but if I haven't heard what you call your mother you would think I am.

ImSoCoolNow · 08/06/2015 12:37

People who don't put the 'next customer' sign behind their shopping at the checkout when there's one right there and you have to lean over them and their shopping to get one! Rude!

iHAVEtogetoutofhere · 08/06/2015 12:48

I am married to a person with dyslexia and have a child who suffers it too. Additionally, I had a poor education myself.
So, I don't presume to correct other people's language.

I also appreciate that there are regional variations.

But... I do find it grating when people in power / influence drop 't's and 'h's and finish words that should be 'ing' as 'in' in an attempt to appear 'hip' or 'down wiv the kids'. Blair was really bad for this, and Sturgeon and her 'Sco-ish' drives me nuts too.

And, sorry NittyDora but people who decide whether other people should be / need to be using crutches. So 'genuine crutch use is absolutely fine but (if not) ... I have to stop myself running up and whipping the crutches away.' Really??? Can you not just walk past and feel lucky that you don't 'need' crutches (whether 'genuine' or psychological)?

Don't like spitting either - it's a health hazard.
Once stood right next to the 'Heart of Midlothian' on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Slippery with green mucus. Yak.

TedAndLola · 08/06/2015 12:59

British people using 'gotten', and those who use 'mom' because it's an Americanism.

Similarly baby showers, proms and other horrible Americanisms that are becoming popular in the UK.

Middle lane morons.

Cyclists with a chip on their shoulder (not literally - literally would be quite amusing).

The word 'utilise'. Just say use. Likewise, 'myself' and 'yourself' instead of 'me' and 'you'.

Stereotypes about gender like "women are terrible at parking" or "men can't multitask" send me into a rage.

sparkysparkysparky · 08/06/2015 13:10

Oooo, tedandlola, I have just been flamed for not realising that Mom is also a Midlands expression. We live and learn.

TedAndLola · 08/06/2015 13:15

That's why I specified that people who use it because it's American irritate me! The same kind of people who call the police "cops" because they think it's cooler...

helpmekeepstrong · 08/06/2015 13:15

Calling the police 'Feds'.
Almost everything on Facebook.

sparkysparkysparky · 08/06/2015 13:19

Fair enough, tedandlola. I hate baby showers and all that crap too. I hated trick or treat as an American thing when it first started leaking over here but I've lost that one.
And the bloody Easter Bunny. I don't even know what I am supposed to be saying and it totally undermines my "Santa is real" stuff.

TedAndLola · 08/06/2015 13:27

Yes, the easter bunny is a weird one!

helpmekeepstrong reminded me of another one with her mention of Facebook: people that call it Faceache or say Twatter instead of Twitter, especially when they think it's really clever and hilarious.

ArtfulPuss · 08/06/2015 14:03

People who use the phrase 'off of' instead of 'off'

QueenArseClangers - yes! Just so unnecessary, such a waste of a word, and so wrong. Ed Sheeran is one of the guilty ones:

When your legs don't work like they used to before
And I can't sweep you off of your feet

I have a little rant every time it comes on the radio when we're in the car.

ImSoCoolNow · 08/06/2015 14:08

But TedAndLola men can't multitask and women can't park. I'm sorry but in my experience it's very true

muminhants1 · 08/06/2015 14:18

Well not in mine. I am better at parking (and reading maps) than my husband is, and he's very good at doing several things at once eg chatting, watching TV and playing on his tablet all at the same time.

SevTSnape · 08/06/2015 14:30

I do a fair bit of proof reading for my job, and I'm a grammar nazi at the best of times.
But my GOD it irks me when people can't get it fucking right in official documents. Some of which go to customers before I've seen them. Capital letters in random places, quote marks around USPs, misspelling of simple words such as "level" (leval), "college" (collage) and "manager" (managor).

I've come to accept that no one (not even myself) is going to use perfect English on public internet forums, but there are times when it IS needed. Considering my business is built around education as well!

Also, I don't mind that people use hashtags where they are supported. But people who use hashtags on Facebook posts that are set to be viewed by friends only. It takes away the entire point of hashtags.

OhItsYouAgain · 08/06/2015 14:41

I don't even know what a hashtag is for, although I have heard of them. Blush

RackofPeas · 08/06/2015 14:41

When you go in a toy shop and they've got background music on and screens playing other music. Makes my ears bleed.
People who drop litter.
People who don't seem to realise that as a pedestrian on a zebra crossing I have right of way and you have to stop your car. Yes, I'm talking to you mad sunglasses lady in a BMW 3 series.
Whistlers.
People who don't know that you put the fork on the left and the knife on the right. The spoon handle points towards the knife. It's not hard!!!
"Amazeballs".
