I've not done it but definitely would if DD was kicking off and needed a breastfeed and I thought she'd finish before I had to get off the bus! As long as you didn't whip your top off and have both boobs dangling free I can't see a problem!

NinkyNonkers · 06/06/2015 20:29

Of course. Have fed in many odd places.

Wildernessrock · 06/06/2015 20:31

Stupid woman. I fed on buses, and everywhere else. If your baby is hungry, feed them! I find IRL people don't have any problem seeing a baby ( or toddler)! being fed.

404NotFound · 06/06/2015 20:32

I uses to get my tits out anywhere when the baby needed feeding. And dc1 is 20 now.

laughinglemons · 06/06/2015 20:32

Yes. Absolutely. Try saying 'do you think people shouldn't eat on the bus?' they is bound to be someone eating or drinking near by... or tell them that tfl permit breastfeeding and if they are unhappy with the policy they could complain to tfl but that if tfl said people couldn't breast feed they would be breaking the law...

Annunziata - minifingers was talking about the place, in this case the bus, she wasn't saying that whatever you are doing its appropriate to breastfeed. So it is appropriate to breastfeed in a plane but perhaps not if you are the pilot or a stewardess...

nothingshappening · 06/06/2015 20:32

yes

Minifingers9 · 06/06/2015 20:32

"There is nowhere where it's not appropriate to breastfeed.

Course there is, that's a stupid thing to say. It would not be appropriate to feed if you are driving down the motorway, or driving the bus."

Arf Smile

For you OP. Wonder if there would be a market for 'offensive' breastfeeding covers like these:

BarbarianMum · 06/06/2015 20:33

Yes of course. In fact, I did.

under the sea
in a chemically place
etc

DD started reception 4 days after her baby brother was born by emcs. I had to take her to school on the bus and get the bus home again. It took well over an hour. Same again at school pick up. I had a 4 day old, slightly early baby, was trying to establish breastfeeding and an older child needing to go to school. Too damn right I fed on that bus. The very lovely people on there would help me by holding onto the baby if I needed a hand, talking to/reading to dd, carrying my bag on and off etc. The driver even stopped and bought a punnet of raspberries from a roadside seller for me.

Lagoonablue · 06/06/2015 20:35

Yes if baby needs a feed he/she needs a feed.

BillyBigchin · 06/06/2015 20:35

I once got on the bus feeding my boy in a sling. Sat down next to an elderly gent who remarked 'you could be feeding him under there!' (Nice not nasty comment).

I said I was, and we had a nice chat about how it's sad that mums feel judged because some neanderthal people think it's somehow wrong.

Minifingers9 · 06/06/2015 20:36

"Course there is, that's a stupid thing to say. It would not be appropriate to feed if you are driving down the motorway, or driving the bus."

That comment made me smile and miss my son who's gone to visit friends for the weekend, because it's exactly the sort of thing he'd say. He's 9 and has HFA.

MarchLikeAnAnt · 06/06/2015 20:36

Yes and I have.

1Morewineplease · 06/06/2015 20:36

Feed away my lovely!!!

ghostspirit · 06/06/2015 20:37

couple people said about baby being strapped in... buses dont have seat belts?

yeah i feed him everywhere i need to...then i thought mabe the bus is a no no. i know the answer really but you know when ou question something there is no need to... the same woman probably would have moaned if i let him scream

Nanny0gg · 06/06/2015 20:39

I would have tried not to, just because of being thrown around a bit and not being that comfortable.

But not because of any other concerns.

The woman was very silly.

BeCool · 06/06/2015 20:40

Yes of course.
I fed my babies anywhere they wanted to be fed.
Sorry you had such an unpleasant encounter with a nasty bigot. Don't let it get to you. Envy

Annunziata · 06/06/2015 20:43

He'll have a ball minifingers :)

myexcitinglife · 06/06/2015 20:43

Yes. As a PP mentioned buses in SE london, once I was breastfeeding in a bus in SE London and a lady gave me a huge smile when she noticed.

chocomochi · 06/06/2015 20:45

YANBU. I've never bf on a bus but have done on trains. If your baby needs to be fed, they need to be fed.

GreatAuntDinah · 06/06/2015 20:46

I've breastfed under the sea annunziata, in the channel tunnel Grin

MrsHathaway · 06/06/2015 20:48

Kept strapped into the pram, I think people mean. Far safer than on a knee, assuming the brakes are on, etc.

AntiHop · 06/06/2015 20:50

I've breastfed on public transport many times, including buses. And at bus stops.
