AIBU?

Mum in the park drinking squash from baby's bottle

Takes all sorts I guess but a woman has just sat down with a child in a buggy and a toddler scooting around. She's drinking from her baby's bottle. Is this a bit yuk or is it the latest thing? Is it replacing cocktails in jars? I couldn't grasp that either!

but using a teat is not really any different from using a bottle with a sports cap.
tilt it back and sip, job done.

I'm wondering too whether MrsDV hit the nail on the head, and this was meant to cause outrage that the child was being given squash in a bottle!

I drink my kids drinks all the time! and eat their rice cakes! and use their wet wipes! I didn't even think it would seem odd.
Totes bet OP comes from a weird small provincial town where anything, ANYTHING, slightly off kilter is "observed". These kind of threads make me glad i live in London as you can do what the fuck you want, be it drinking from your own child's bottle, singing at the top of your voice on the street, or breastfeeding your 3 year old in tesco. The point is, everyone is so different and it is so anonymous that no one would even register some woman having a slurp from her kids bottle

In case you've missed my post I said fair enough I was being unreasonable!

To whoever who asked - yes the drinking from the teat I found odd.

My brother and I grew up in the 70's and used to drink from the garden hose. A GARDEN HOSE I tell ya!.

My Mum was too drunk on Aadvocaat and Babycham to even care and that was before lunch............after midday they cracked open a can of Party Seven. That was just the mothers. Us kids were left with a bottle of warm lemonade and a packet of Salt n' Shake crisps and a paddling pool with NO SUN SCREEN!

The Dad's were much, much worse.

Ahhh. I miss the seventies.

Phantom, if that was what I had wanted to suggest, believe me, I would have said it.

I'm glad I'm stuck in bed. It seems you can't do anything anymore without someone honking up their judgy pants and pulling a cats bum face!

*hoiking that should be, not honking. I blame the drugs.

Goodness I had to do that. I brought no drink with me, I was coughing on the verge if choking, so I git my toddler ds bottle opened the lid and drank from it, and was all better Smile

The irony is that on here you're often judged for having a differing opinion. Regardless of whether you'd ever comment on something you thought unusual or treat anyone in a different way.

It's preferable to never voice these musings for fear of people reading a lot into them.

Finding - yes I guess so.

My post upthread re: the drunk mothers was tongue in cheek btw. The drinking from a garden hose was not though Wink

I don't suppose there's anything wrong with it, but I've never seen an adult drinking from a baby's bottle and would think it was very odd if I did.

To those criticising the OP for being judgemental: there's a difference between noticing something unusual and thinking it a bit strange, and criticising a person for doing it.
I think some of the comments are more judgemental than the OP.

Just making an Observation & asking if it was normal?? Really, you just had to log on to MN & ask if that was normal.... Do you read the DM buy any chance ?

Oh come on folks, it is slightly odd to drink through a teat! Not a hanging offence obviously, but definitely strange,Smile

I would have removed the teat personally Grin

Squiggle this is Aibu. Whatever the question the answer will usually be yes!

I suspect Irl most people would think it odd to see an adult drinking from a baby bottle complete with teat. Unless at a fetish party! It would take two seconds to remove the teat and have a drink if you were so desperate for liquid.

On mn - complete outrage that ANYONE should think this anything other than completely normal.

Haven't we all "borrowed" a child's drink or snack?

kids crawl around on the floor, eat pet food, chew their feet and eat last night's toast they dropped hid in the high chair

no different to when we use our fork to feed a kid something to try. your being so precious worrying about sharing germs like that.

The squash in a bottle on the other hand. ..

Yeah, drinking from the teat's a bit weird.

Wouldn't have posted a thread on mumsnet about a stranger doing something as innocuous as that, though, personally. She wasn't harming anyone.

It's just mean.

My child handed me a bit of toast yesterday. Pre chewed, from his mouth. I absentmindedly stuck it in my mouth and ate it.

Sharing drinks is positively hygienic in my house.

I've done this, especially when suffering from morning sickness and a quick sip stops me from throwing up. I would unscrew the top first.

I thought she meant like a newborn teat? Thinking about it though if I was thirsty enough I'd just use it.

It's not like anyone would be avidly watching and mean-spirited enough to post a thread about me on a parenting site or anything.

Report
TheCowThatLaughs · 07/06/2015 10:31

I'd do it but I'd unscrew the teat and drink from the bottle like a cup, only because I don't like the feeling of drinking from a teat or a spouty thing

Sorry, but I do wonder about people who post these kind of threads. I can imagine myself seeing someone doing something outside my experience and thinking 'oh, that's a bit odd?' But can't really imagine continuing to think about it and making a post on the internet about it, unless I thought it was a big deal.

The op also asks if this is some kind of trend? If you see 10 seperate people doing something you might wonder if it's a trend. But who thinks 'must be a crazy new trend' when they see one person doing something?
