School trip

Aibu to think £18 is quite pricey for a nursery/reception school trip to a local farm?

Admission price is £6, I'm thinking that will probably be reduced as a large group will be going.

Can't decide if I am just being tight Hmm

Ds had a similar trip with his primary school this year which was £6 - no entrance fee, so around £12 if it had had one. But then, fee will be cheaper for groups. It is a lot.

Schools certainly can stop children going through non-payment. Every letter for a trip we get clearly states there is no money in the coffers for those not able to pay and they will be expected to be in school that day.

It varies so much. My dd when in reception went to the farm on a coach with 3 staff members and some parent volunteers - £1 voluntary contribution. Ds is going to the same farm with his state school nursery in the same postcode in a month (1 year later), again coach, 3 staff, parent volunteers - £8 per child an £10 per parent volunteer!

Blackhole if the trip is during school time then they are breaking the law if they refuse to take children for none payment unless it is a residential trip.

Schools can ask for contributions only.

They cant exclude individual children soapboxqueen but they can cancel the trip. Used to happen a lot at our school so they've largely stopped running them.

soapboxqueen · 05/06/2015 19:48

Absolutely they can cancel the trip in its entirety but that wasn't what blackhole said.
