We live in apartment (which we own) and each apartment in the block has their own allotted space. There are also several visitor bays too. As with many families in the block, we have 2 cars so I park in our bay (which is underneath the building) and DH parks in a VP bay outside.

2 issues that are bugging me which basically boils down to the same thing - people NOT parking in their alloted bays, leaving them empty and taking up a bloody VP bay!

AIBU to be pissed off when they leave their bays empty and park in a VP/vacant apartments bay (the space is underneath rather than outside) meaning people who use the VP bays cant park anywhere?!

Thanks TheFlis That is the kind of point I was trying to make, not whether we should use the VP bay but the mind boggles at how he leaves his own space empty and uses the same VP bay alllll the time. I'm sure he would complain if someone parked in his actual bay.

sebs Oh i know that now lol - we just had a bike and car which wasnt an issue. Such a PITA now!

I can see your point OP but I do think YABU. I live on an estate where we all have parking bays and there are some visitor bays. Most houses have only one bay of their own so a few houses use the visitor bays to park their second cars.

I'm not affected as we have two spaces of our own and space for visitors but some of my neighbours get really riled up about the visitor parking being constantly used for the same second cars all the time, and I can see their point. Although I also kind of think that residents take priority. So I'm a bit on the fence and think it's just one of those things where you're both being unreasonable.

At the end of the day, taking more of something that there is a limited supply of than you actually need is selfish. The OP needs 2 spaces so is using 2 spaces. This neighbour only needs 1 space but it deliberately taking up 2 for no good reason (1 to park in, 1 which others cannot park in as it belongs to him).

Yes TheFlis Thats what Im miffed about. It's just selfish to use up more than required. It's just a given by all residents that if you hav a second car, you park in a VP bay, unless you go out. This moron just takes it to mean it's his bay.

Oh and there hasnt ever been a time when all the VP bays have been in use/full except for now.

If you haven't talked to him and he isn't actually breaking any of the building rules I don't think he is either an idiot or a moron.

The residents could decide that people with 2 cars should be able to rent an additional space, and it is certainly public spirited not to take up a visitor's space unnecessarily. However, I don't think having a second car gives you more entitlement to a visitor's space. Potentially it just makes you more annoying to other residents.
