To buy a car with 60,000 miles on it?

Posting here for traffic and not sure where to put this...

Car is an Audi (automatic, diesel) from large London dealer. We can purchase 3 year warranty. 60,000 miles and 2010 model. Service history included.

Would you buy a car with this mileage?

Thanks

Thanks folks! Feeling a lot more confident. Price is 12k. Audi A6.
We were diddled on our last car (bought in oct and trying to get rid of it ever since) so all round nervous

OP - Again, I'd defo pay an engineer form the AA etc to come and give it a once over, just to be sure. Chances are, it will be fine, but it's a small amount to pay when you're risking £12k.

SunnyBaudelaire · 02/06/2015 11:04

yes

SunnyBaudelaire · 02/06/2015 11:05

for 12k?!
no

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:10

It's a decent price sunny. Why do you think otherwise?

SunnyBaudelaire · 02/06/2015 11:12

it sounds a lot to me for a five year old car....but then OP is in London I guess...

19lottie82 · 02/06/2015 11:14

Sunny, that's not outlandish for a 5 year old A6 with 60k miles on the clock, London, or otherwise. Second hand ars are actually usually CHEAPER down South, believe it or not. As there is more competition, apparently.

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:15

Car values have nothing to do with location.....

AwayAndRunUpMaHumf · 02/06/2015 11:15

If its got a tiptronic gearbox, I would steer clear. Google the problems, there's umpteen pages online about them.

SunnyBaudelaire · 02/06/2015 11:16

OK I see, thanks.
Stinkers mum of course second hand car prices vary regionally.....

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:18

And brand new you're looking at £32k+.....

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:18

No they don't. How silly.

SunnyBaudelaire · 02/06/2015 11:20

no it is not 'silly' thank you, I live in the least economically active area in the UK and yes, second hand car prices are lower here.

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:20

Cars aren't like houses - stuck to a certain location. If the area influenced prices then everyone would buy from the same area.

penisland · 02/06/2015 11:22

No they don't. How silly.

Yes they do. Less so with the growth of the Internet but I'd expect to pay more for the same used car in the Scottish highlands than in central London.

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:22

Go look at parkers or glasses guide. Car values do not vary by region.... Hmm

19lottie82 · 02/06/2015 11:22

Stinkersmum Yes, they do. My DH is a mechanic with 30 years experience in the auto industry.

It's simple demand and supply, there's more cars, thus less competition in more densely populated areas, so prices will be lower.

I bought a used Audi last year (I'm in Glasgow) and travelled to Leeds to pick it up, as this is definitely the case.

It certainly isn't "silly", more like simple economics.

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:24

Your dh is a mechanic. How does that make him an expert in value? I'm sure mechanics fix cars as opposed to sell them.

19lottie82 · 02/06/2015 11:25

Parkers isn't set in stone. Just because it gives you £x as a value for a car, it doesn't mean every single model of that age / spec / mileage will cost that much. And besides, most used cars go for more than the "book price". These prices are mainly used for dealers for trade in quotes.

penisland · 02/06/2015 11:25

Sorry I meant less in Scotland!

BolshierAyraStark · 02/06/2015 11:27

Yep, our old SAAB had 100,000 on the clock when we bought it. Had it for 7 years & never had a problem with it, wasa fabulous car.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 02/06/2015 11:27

We bought our diesel Focus at 2 years old with 78k on the clock, it's up to 215k now & still going strong.

Personally I'd go new for that sort of money, or at least expect something that isn't 5 years old, but if you're desperate for that particular car...

penisland · 02/06/2015 11:28

Go look at parkers or glasses guide. Car values do not vary by region.... hmm

The clue is in the word "guide" most people would prefer to buy locally and so it comes down to supply and demand. I have done 600 mile round trips to Scotland before to buy cars at good prices. This is really common knowledge!

SunnyBaudelaire · 02/06/2015 11:29

I bought a nice car here for 400 quid, 30,000 on the clock....Smile - OP you should come here to the land of cheap cars...

Stinkersmum · 02/06/2015 11:30

Sorry penisland, not afaic.
