I fractured my scaphoid waist (middleish). It looks to be well aligned so we opted to just cast and review in 4 weeks. I have been put in a collies plaster with my fingers and thumb completely uncast and advised to keep them moving. I am just a bit dubious about moving my thumb as a lot of stuff on the internet recommends casting the thumb as well. As I have 2 dc I am using the thumb quite a lot although it is pretty painful. Anyone have any experience of this?

Scaphoid fractures are a painful bugger and if not casted 'right' can cause long term pain. There's a blood vessel near it that can go 'wrong' ircc.

I'd ask for a second opinion. Scaphoid fractures don't show straight away so even if the xray showed nothing you should still cast.

Sorry, meant to say I put right in quotes as I'm not sure what the current advise for management is.
