I think it would engage young people in politics like in Scotland.

Either take 16 and 17 year olds out of the taxation system, or give them the vote.

No taxation without representation.

MileyVirus · 31/05/2015 15:18

Definitely because it would give my kids the vote Grin.

chipsandpeas · 31/05/2015 15:23

i agree, during the scottish referedum it got a lot more people of that age engaged about politics
plus they are the ones who have to live with the potential repercussions as well in the event of a vote to leave

MileyVirus · 31/05/2015 15:34

Also young people will probably vote to stay in. Grin

silveroldie2 · 31/05/2015 17:51

Definitely not, the legal age to vote is 18.

run2 · 31/05/2015 17:54

Yes but we are questioning if there should be a change to this aren't we? I agree they will be the ones to bear the brunt and it proved a positive thing in the Scottish referendum.

kissmyheathenass · 31/05/2015 18:03

Definitely not. It's just a way to buy yes votes.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 31/05/2015 18:05

Not for me, my 16 year old is clueless. 18 is fine.

rumbleinthrjungle · 31/05/2015 18:07

Definitely not. Yes, an easy way to bribe a whole lot of innocent 'yes' votes from kids too young to have any real idea what they're signing up to. The voting age is 18. And this 'engagement' business is a red herring, older generations are not disengaged with politics, they are heartily pissed off.

Hoppityhippityhop · 31/05/2015 18:08

I think that if we accept that 16 and 17 year olds are not generally treated as adults, for example in the criminal justice system, they can not be treated as adults in elections.

How many 16 and 17 year olds pay tax now? I thought they were all in education or training.

BackforGood · 31/05/2015 18:13

I echo exactly what rumble said.

Definitely not.
