I have to have 3 cans a day one at 10 one at lunch and one at 5.

I want to give up but end up drinking fruit juice with more calories.

CuttedUpPear lots of companies bully, lie, oppresses and steals to make sure the flow of food, oil, minerals etc. etc. are all provided to people in the world - coca cola aren't any worse than any other company. if you were going to avoid all these companies that did these things you wouldnt have enough of a supply of most things to keep the population of the world alive.

HeresMyBrightIdea · 01/06/2015 11:40

I live off Pepsi Max. I don't drink anything else, really...I buy a 24 pack of Pepsi Max a week, and maybe a litre of two of orange juice, and some squash.

I always drink it with a straw, so my teeth don't suffer, and I mentioned it to the doctors after being worried by a thread on here a while back, and they weren't worried. Everyone has a vice. I don't smoke, I don't drink tea or coffee, there's no scientific, peer-reviewed evidence that aspartame causes issues, I'm not overweight, my organs are fine.

Harverina · 01/06/2015 11:45

Bishop tell me how you have most weight so fast!!

BubGal13 · 01/06/2015 12:09

I used to be on 2/3 cans of D Cokr a day, try to stick to 1 a day now (but seriously addicted, has to be in freezer so ice cold...gives me a real high.. etc) but I reason- I don’t smoke/do drugs, don’t drink ( too much?!) an healthy weight and pretty sensible diet, so it’s my 1 core vice. It makes me happy, it makes my meals more enjoyable, it cures my hangovers, I doubt I’ll ever give it up either Grin

Bishopston · 01/06/2015 12:25

Havering - I started May 20th and stuck to a 1100 cals a day diet - and ran 7 miles a day. The first week I'd lost half a stone. This week I've stuck to around 900 cals a day and ran every day - 1 day I ran 6 miles though and other days either 2 or 4. But since my weigh in last Wednesday 27th I've lost another 7 pounds!

DisappointedOne · 01/06/2015 12:34

That's not a sustainable eating plan though!

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 12:41

Bishop, I am impressed.

I shall be hopping on the treadmill in a few min.

Bishopston · 01/06/2015 12:44

Thank you yes - it feels like a drudge at the time - but worth it when you get a good figure on the scales!

Bishopston · 01/06/2015 12:44

It's also inspiring when you hear of other people doing a similar thing!

minibmw2010 · 01/06/2015 12:48

Bishopston, those are amazing results but how are you going to do it long term? I admire you for sticking to it and getting results but wonder how sustainable that can be?

Bunbaker · 01/06/2015 12:53

Do you diet coke drinkers not drink tea or coffee?

gamerchick · 01/06/2015 12:54

No, tea and coffee are ruddy awful.

minibmw2010 · 01/06/2015 12:57

Actually, no, don't drink tea or coffee. I'm not a fan of hot drinks. I drink loads of water though.

Bishopston · 01/06/2015 12:57

I drink both tea and coffee. Yes minibmw2010 I see what u mean - I'm just hoping eventually to go onto a diet of totally unprocessed food - things like nuts, fruit, veg and fish - and totally cut out diet coke!

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 01/06/2015 12:57

I drink tea when I'm trying to quit diet coke.

BlastedChickens · 01/06/2015 12:59

My addiction is coke zero...easily can drink 2 litres a day. It's not good for you.
The sweeteners mess with your brain and it gets confused and as a result you crave carbs and eat more.
I lost four stone recently, the biggest thing I did? Stopped drinking coke zero, it was hard but the results worth it.
For the record I drink shed loads of tea...

minibmw2010 · 01/06/2015 14:32

But that's not always the case for every person. I'm doing a low carb high protein diet at the moment and coping fine drinking diet coke but still staying away from the carbs.

DisappointedOne · 01/06/2015 14:41

I low carb too (that's why I gave up caffeine). The caffeine in the coke will have a similar effect on you as sugar. Worth trying to ditch it IMO.

GatoradeMeBitch · 01/06/2015 16:20

When I have Diet Coke I crave a carby meal followed by something sweet. I'd never bother having Diet Coke with a green salad or bowl of soup. I just used it to enhance my junk food meals - which then got more frequent as my DC addiction kicked in.

Aside from the headache when I gave it up, I noticed my eyesight was noticeably sharper a couple of days later. (But to be fair, I'd cleaned up my diet in general so the increase in protein and veg content could have been the cause too.)

Mrsmorton · 01/06/2015 17:08

How can caffeine have a similar effect to sugar when caffeine doesn't contain calories? The body isn't stupid, in fact it's massively sophisticated. Do you respond in the same way to nicotine as you do sugar?

I'd be interested to hear from any diabetic who tests their sugar after a diet coke and who could let us know if it's the same as after a can of Sprite. I'd wager the answer would be no.

DisappointedOne · 01/06/2015 17:11

Similar in that caffeine is a stimulant (like sugar) and when it wears off you have a "dip" that usually influences your behaviour (like grabbing something to give you another hit).

When low carbing you're trying to keep everything level so that you don't experience these peaks and troughs.

HeresMyBrightIdea · 01/06/2015 17:21

I eat less when I'm having Pepsi Max. I also drink it with everything - it's not a "treat drink", so I'd totally drink it with soup or salad.

It doesn't affect my weight at all. Infact, if I'm trying to lose weight, I tend to drink more and eat less and that works for me.

DisappointedOne · 01/06/2015 17:23

I generally follow the Idiot proof Diet (mashup of Atkins and South Beach) which bans caffeine for at least the first 2 weeks (phase 1). I tend just to follow phase 1 so gave up caffeine completely.

It says:

Can I drink alcohol?
Yes, not for the first fortnight, but yes.

What about tea and coffee?
Decaf at first, please. But then yes.

What about my Diet Coke? I'm addicted to Diet Coke
Funny, that. Everyone overweight we know...... has had this problem. No, you're not allowed your Diet Coke. Not under any circumstances. Sorry. We'll explain later.

Will take a photo of the other bit because i'm supposed to be revising and it's a bit huge for me to type out now!

DisappointedOne · 01/06/2015 17:25
