To think you can't whinge that no one ever comments on or likes your FB photos and posts if you don't like or comment on theirs?

Someone on my FB friends list has just had a total whinge this morning on their status about how no one ever comments on or likes her photos and statuses. Cue loads of "Awww sorry Hun" type replies.

Said whinger never ever likes or comments on anything of anyone else's! We have a lot of mutual friends and she never ever bothers.

I am tempted to write a reply spelling the above out to her and then deleting her....

I reckon if you wrote that reply, she'd dine out on it for at least a week and milk every last drop of attention out of it Grin

Quick eye roll while scrolling past is what I'd do.

CatsCantTwerk · 29/05/2015 13:28

How old are You both? 12?

JemFinch · 29/05/2015 13:30

and this I shy I only have actual real life real friends on fb.

CatLovesBopIt · 29/05/2015 13:31

That's not very fair, CatcCant! I've not done anything to behave like a 12 year old!

Facebook elite strikes again!

Summerisle1 · 29/05/2015 13:34

Oh I'd just reply with 'Start posting something that isn't irredeemable shyte and I might start to go looking for the like button'.

Or at least I'd want to!

But then this sort of atrocious neediness is just one of the less attractive features of Facebook.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 29/05/2015 13:35

I'm going to have to be a grumpy sod and say that I think liking or commenting on a status/post should be down to the quality and content of said status or post, rather than as part of a pathetic back-scratching arrangement in order to secure more likes/comments for your own statuses and posts.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 29/05/2015 13:35

I couldn't give a crap who likes my posts photos etc. I prefer it when people don't as it allows me to live in a world of my own

Exactly this. I really don't want umpteen pointless 'likes' or comments and nor do I hand them out. I have a friend who appears to have installed some sort of automatic like app because within seconds of any mutual friend posting a status or picture, she's liked it. Which is complete nonsense as well as inappropriate in some cases.

This. I "like" things that I like. I have no idea what, if anything, my friends "like" on FB, nor do I care. Who keeps track of that sort of thing?

icelollycraving · 29/05/2015 15:37

Bizarre. I think I'd laugh if anyone wrote this on FB.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 29/05/2015 16:29

I had a friend who did much the same. He rarely if ever updated his status either. Strange. Why have a profile on there if you never update your status, post any photos or comment on anyone else's status's.

Oh wait...It's just to be nosy. I either unfriend or restrict what those nosy sorts can see.

Confused I agree with your theory.

southeastastra · 29/05/2015 16:55

just start liking her posts, would make her feel better and it' not hard.

surely not as hard as bothering to type out this thread.

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 29/05/2015 17:06

How bizarre. MrsItsNoworNotatAll, I rarely update my status or share things because I feel like most things I could post about my day/life are really of no interest to the majority of people and would only be a sign of insufferable egotism. I post very occasional status updates about things that have a big impact on me/my life, or that I find particularly amusing/interesting and which I am reasonably sure others will not have seen and might also benefit from seeing. Both are rare.

I suspect it greatly depends on who one has as friends on Facebook. If everyone I had on there posted boring tripe I'd probably think my own potential posts were worth putting out there. As it is I'd only make myself look self-absorbed.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 29/05/2015 17:56

smillas I'm not a prolific status updater either. I might go a week or so before writing something but in that time I will have seen something that a friend has posted that I'll have either liked or commented on. I have had folk who never write anything at all ever. I look on their wall for signs of life, nothing! You know when they do write something cos all their other friends are shocked to see their update.

But if you were to see them face to face they'd be able to mention any updates you'd made.

I mean if they are taking the time to read what friends are doing how hard is to press like if they do indeed like it?

CatLovesBopIt · 29/05/2015 21:44

Southeastastra, I do "like" her posts, just as I like the posts and photographs that I like of anyone else that pop up on my newsfeed when I look through it.....

IMO this woman does seem to get a lot of likes and comments; she does a lot of statuses each day.

I don't know why she is whingeing, to be fair.

This is why I don't like Facebook, for some people it's a torture as they scan other people's lives and feel hurt if nobody comments on their stuff. I'm convinced it adds to depression if you're that way inclined. Fine for pic's and catch ups of loved ones but it's the competitive nature that makes it tiresome. Your friend is hurt, rightly or wrongly, please don't add fuel to the fire.
