To be fucking fuming with my Mum ?

I am so incredibly angry with my mum at the moment. She has a staffy, he is the loveliest dog in the world and she's had him for many years now, however last month she decided that she would like another one. My mum is late 50's and not in the best health but she thought she could handle it, she was wrong.

Staffy number 2 was again a good dog, just a bit giddy and kept pissing all over her house, it was a puppy so to be expected. She lasted 2 weeks before she got rid of it. No more dogs, I can't cope she said.

Today she calls to tell she she bought another dog, another staffy. She's going on holiday in two fucking weeks and she expects me to look after it. Hell no, I just went mental at her and now she's sulking, DH said he's going to report her to the RSPCA. I honestly don't understand her thinking, why would you do this? I will not enable her to keep doing this so AIBU to tell her to put it in a kennel when she goes n holiday?

Yanbu but poor dog!

Poor dogs Angry

What a silly, irresponsible attitude to pets your mum has. Yanbu. Say no and stick to it. Let her sulk.

HubertCumberdale · 27/05/2015 15:39

YANBU. I have a friend who displayed complete innability to look after a dog. The dog died, which wasn't 100% her fault but I am sure that it wouldn't have happened had the dogs been looked after properly.

Anyway a few weeks later... she gets another dog. A very high maintenance breed and is still totally unequipped to look after it. I have also gone back and forth in my mind about whether the right thing to do is call RSPCA.

To summerise, yanbu, insist it goes into a kennel.

Jackie0 · 27/05/2015 15:39

Its like a compulsion with some people isn't it?
Totally selfish and irresponsible of her.
Stick to your guns

coconutpie · 27/05/2015 15:39

What in the world? She got a dog, got rid of it after 2 weeks and now has gotten another one? ANd she's going on holiday in 2 weeks? That is a feckin joke - why did she get a dog if she can't even be there to look after it!

YANBU. Don't enable her. Where did she get the dog from, was it a rescue? I'd be calling them for advice. She's not fit to have another dog.

BettyCatKitten · 27/05/2015 15:39

Yanbu, poor dogs Sad

Pagwatch · 27/05/2015 15:40

I'm not surprised you are angry. Really irresponsible. Poor dogs.

Kayakwonder · 27/05/2015 15:44

Poor dogs! Perhaps your mum needs taking on a visit to Battersea or another animal shelter to see what happens to all these poor discarded pets.

Fudgeface123 · 27/05/2015 15:44

I'd take the dog when she goes away and then find somewhere suitable and re-home it, obviously making sure it's going to a good place, or back to the rescue/place she got it from

KraggleLego · 27/05/2015 15:45

It wasn't a rescue, it was someone she found on the bloody internet, I told her she is ridiculous she doesn't have the strength to walk the one she has if he pulls, what she expects to do with two I have no idea.

It does sound very irrational and I think that animal hoarding is a recognized disorder(?)
could this potentially be the start of something like that for her?
If it is a kind of compulsion then appealing to her sense of reason and rationality may not work?

WayneRooneysHair · 27/05/2015 15:55

I'm fucking fuming on your behalf OP, don't enable her.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 27/05/2015 15:56

YANBU but phoning the RSPCA would be a waste of time. They won't do anything.

WayneRooneysHair · 27/05/2015 15:56

Although you can't rehome it etc whilst your mum is away, it's theft no matter how you try to justify it.

Kayakwonder · 27/05/2015 15:58

OP I know it's not your responsibility but if she gets rid of any more dogs please please make sure they go to shelter and not some random person online. People use Gumtree, Facebook etc to find dogs for fighting or bait dogs (they are essentially tortured to death). Perhaps show your mum some of the incredibly distressing info a google search for 'bait dogs' brings up.

19lottie82 · 27/05/2015 16:08

Your DM is DBU, but unless she is actually mistreating the dog(s), the RSPCA won't be interested at this stage.

But don't look after it while she goes on holiday. No way.

KraggleLego · 27/05/2015 16:21

She doesn't abuse them in the general sense, she has no garden though and she doesn't have the strength to walk them, her old staffy is very very fat. She gives it bacon sandwiches for breakfast ffs.

She lets her dog out onto the street attached to a string so it can go to the toilet. I absolutely will not be looking after it when she goes away. She sold her last one from Facebook, I told her to take it to a rescue but she said she wanted her money back Angry
