Or is it just me?

The fat ends up somewhere so you might flatten the tum but end up with an unsightly roll elsewhere. Plus, they're incredibly uncomfortable. And often give the wearer a belly ache or back ache. Can you imagine a man wearing them? Nope. Another silly way to control women. Literally!

littlepeas · 26/05/2015 17:04

No, I get this! I have one of those really full on spanx jobbies that go from your bra right down to your knees and I think it is really unflattering. It is true that I have fewer lumps and bumps, but it makes my tummy feel all hard and sticky out, as opposed to a bit squishy but reasonably flat!

DinosaursRoar · 26/05/2015 17:06

do you mean it makes your stomach look bigger when you are wearing it or when you take it off your stomach is bigger than it was before?

I do'nt think they do make your stomach look bigger in clothes, although down to underwear, it often draws the eye to the problem area.

I don't think bigger after wear, although it could be you don't do the "not eating much before a big night out" thing to get your stomach flatter for a tight fitting dress, so bit by bit, it could lead you to be bigger.

InDespair · 26/05/2015 17:07

Same here.

doesnt flatten at all, I cnt breaath, and makes my stomach look like beach ball!

I wear a wide elasticated belt now around problem area and it works much better.

Snowballschanceinhell · 26/05/2015 17:08

YES, YES, YES!!!

I wondered where I was going wrong and why everyone went mad over Spanx and all that stuff. I've tried endless options from the very cheap to the very expensive, but it all just makes it 'hard and sticky out' as littlepeas said. They do nothing for me, and I've found that a decent pair of pants work much better.

So no, it's not just you. Thanks though, I feel tons better now knowing it's not just me ;-)

BettyCatKitten · 26/05/2015 17:10

Yes! And they're bloody uncomfortable.

AbsentMindedNumpty · 26/05/2015 17:11

It does stop the wobble though Grin.

formerbabe · 26/05/2015 17:13

I was thinking exactly the same thing today! I put on control pants and my jeans felt so tight...switched to normal knickers and they feel much better. I like wearing them under dresses to smooth me out but not under normal clothes...the fat just gets squished somewhere else!

mrsmilkymoo · 26/05/2015 17:16

All they do is give me indigestion Hmm

DinosaursRoar · 26/05/2015 17:18

I actually think they are sold for the wrong thing, they are crap at dealing with fat, and are just uncomfortable if you are trying to compress fat - but do work well if you are just untoned /a bit saggy. Bit like having an extra layer of muscle on the outside holding it all in.

Oh and I've found the Sainsburys own brand high wasited control pants are the best for the 'saggy belly' issue. Doesn't make anything smaller, just smoother.

Zucker · 26/05/2015 17:30

Stops the wobble alright but it gives a stuffed sausage effect.

reported. How stupid would you have to be to think there is such a thing as slimming tea?

Tweezertastic · 26/05/2015 17:58

Shock

It's a joke, jeez, settle down.

ifgrandmahadawilly · 26/05/2015 18:39

Whenever Ive tried them they give me really terrible ache in my legs, even though I wear the high leg kind. No idea why.

EponasWildDaughter · 26/05/2015 18:41

I think i've tried most shapes of control garment known to man. I haven't found the stomach thing happens to me, but i have found that in the end anything more complicated than a simple slip just makes whatever you're trying to hold in just squidge out elsewhere Grin

The spanx half slips are really good. No visible lines or bulges around the top or bottom, and they don't seem to roll up or down. They're not too unsightly to be seen in either unlike the utterly hideous peach fleshy coloured 'long leg control pant' which i wore once and then binned.
