Dboyfriend attempting to be helpful put the raw uncooked jacket potatoes in the fridge.

The poor misguided soul feels this is entirely normal and I am unreasonable for keeping them in the cupboard.

Yabu. Its cold and dark in the fridge and the only place to keep my potatoes.

I have never kept potatoes in the fridge - wouldn't usually have room. But I am going to start putting the odd stray ones that I often have left over, that hang around in the cupboard for ages then sprout as I forget I have them. Hopefully they'll last longer and I'll see them every day and use them up.

I always kept them in a cupboard but they'd sprout after a week and I threw loads away. Now I keep them in the fridge they last weeks longer.

My potatoes have always been happiest in the fridge

Regardless of size or type they last for ages and I don't think I have ever had to throw any away. I have experimented and kept some in a cupboard covered with a tea towel to try and keep them as day as possible and they sprouted shoots and went soft and wrinkly.

My dad keeps his in the larder, despite having loads of space in his fridge, he just feels its wrong to keep potatoes in the cold!!

I do not have a problem with bananas ripening too quickly. DD1 sees to that!

New potatoes in the fridge (even says so on the bag). Other potatoes in a paper bag in the dark cold garage - the last longer that way!

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 28/05/2015 11:36

I've never considered keeping my potatoes in the fridge before, but that's where they're going right now.

Same here!! Having spent ages "shaving" the sprouts off of the little buggers last night, this could change my life!

I keep my spuds in a bag I got from Lakeland in the utility room- it's cool and the bag shuts out all light. Unless they are the ready prepared spuds with butter, then they go in the fridge.

Bananas- I have a banana tree which stands near, but not right next to the fruit bowl.

My local waitrose keeps the potatoes in the chiller cabinet, so when I get home i put them in the fridge because I am blindly obedient. Prior to shopping there I never put potatoes in the fridge.
