to hate models in swimwear on the streets advertising gym membership

Their looks and most of their body is down to good luck genetics and being paid to look good. Most people that go to the gym don't end up looking like models.

I did some promo work when I was studying to be an engineer. My mother in law says all the time that I'm pretty, my father in law says I'm one of the most intelligent people he knows. I suppose I should have spontaneously combusted at the mere suggestion of using looks and brains.

OP you sound ridiculously jealous of those women. They are employed to do a job. The gym will have a target audience, probably male. If you feel that strongly then don't go to that gym. But you might want to work on being less nasty and cruel. I have long healthy hair, long eyelashes, a tan, big boobs. All natural but I like to look nice. It's hardly a bad thing. And as for whoring themselves, I can assure you I never whored myself, I was just smart enough to know that a day or night in a skimpy outfit beat a full time week in a bar or somewhere.

Agent, out of interest, were there any men dressed only in Speedos or swin shorts handing out leaflets too?

YouTheCat · 25/05/2015 14:29

I've seen male models in tight trunks handing out leaflets outside of the Calvin Klein shop. That was years ago.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 25/05/2015 14:32

It's a shame that whenever anyone complains about scantily clad sexy models being used to sell anything other than sexual services or sexy underwear, they are called jealous. Now, I may be slightly past my prime, but I'm still happy with my appearance, and am most certainly not jealous of prettier, younger women; there were plenty before me and there will be plenty after me. However, the more I read MN the more aware I am of the objectification and sexualisation of women and what impact that has on society. Therefore I feel slightly uncomfortable with the situation OP is describing and like to analyse it a bit too much perhaps

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 25/05/2015 14:35

"I've seen male models in tight trunks handing out leaflets outside of the Calvin Klein shop. That was years ago"

See I'd find that slightly uncomfortable too. Can't quite articulate why because I love the sight of a well toned man Confused Maybe because I wish sex didn't sell...unless someone is actually selling sex that is.

YouTheCat · 25/05/2015 14:57

Fair enough that it makes you feel uncomfortable.

I don't know why it doesn't bother me regarding either sex. It just doesn't.

Coastingit · 25/05/2015 18:16

Thing is WhataLoad, OP would be ripped to shreds in Feminism topic too as she clearly is just irritated and annoyed and yes, probably jealous of the young pretty women who are doing this. Her language is derogatory of the women and she doesn't claim to dislike it for any particular moral reason. The title of the thread alone is just plain offensive.

If OP wanted to discuss or question the reasons gyms employ young attractive women to do this, and is it ok, I guess a decent discussion could be had. But she sees these women as 'whoring themselves' and as such, I think I can see exactly how her mind is working in relation to this and it's not sympathy for the women in question (not that they need it, I'm quite sure they are promo girls and quite enjoying themselves)

agentEgypt · 25/05/2015 18:35

Exactly what. I can't dislike a presence of girls in the street, in pretty much underware, during the daytime, being oversexual and flaunting it without most people calling me jealous.

OP posts:
agentEgypt · 25/05/2015 18:37

Wow that's a lot of pish. How is the title offensive?

OP posts:
Coastingit · 25/05/2015 18:42

''Oversexual' ?

How are they in any way promoting sex? By having good bodies?

Nudity does not equal sex.

And 'Flaunting it' - seriously?

They have been paid to promote physical fitness and beauty, do you want them to sit in a corner whilst doing it?

You seem to think women should cover up, am I right? What judgements do you make of these women? Because people have told you that they are probably students or just normal young women who happen to have fab bodies, but you 'hate' them?

agentEgypt · 25/05/2015 18:48

No I want them to wear gym wear and be knowledgeable about fitness.

Bikinis, heals, false eyelashes, false nails, false hair, fake tan, fake teeth and being virtually naked on a cold high street during the day is not promoting fitness. Its just eye candy for men.

You sound like one of those people you see on holiday demanding to go into a temple with a bikini top on.

parsnipbob · 25/05/2015 18:53

Interjecting here to say a 'good' body is pretty subjective.

Mide7 · 25/05/2015 18:57

I haven't read all the thread so apologise if this has been covered but there is a element of genetics to it. Yes everyone can work and get slim/ripped but not everyone is going to have perfect six packs or whatever fitness models have.

agentEgypt · 25/05/2015 19:05

Yes it is subjective, that's why they should of had different girls with different bodies. They all had the same.

It hasn't really been covered, its been ignored. For both genders genetics is the biggest factor to what type of body they have.

For guys I think this is a much bigger factor. Some guys are naturally muscular and can put muscle on very quickly. For others its a real struggle.

Tequilashotfor1 · 25/05/2015 20:12

Well I'm still waiting to see what gym it is for so I can take a look myself. Although op ive asked you a few times and you won't tell us.

Why?

agentEgypt · 25/05/2015 20:23

How can you look at the promotions girls hired for an event by knowing the name?

I haven't given it as it could get this thread pulled and I've written personally to the gym so they could link me to this if I did.

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 25/05/2015 20:43

Seriously? Well, that'll give them all a good laugh then.

YouTheCat · 25/05/2015 20:45

Coastingit · 25/05/2015 21:07

You've written to the gym! Grin

Brilliant. What did you say? That they should have overweight unattractive people handing out flyers - for the gym, a place where people go to improve their bodies and aspire to the perfection - oops sorry, falseness?! of the people advertising.

And I have to disagree on the idea of a 'good' body being subjective. In our society at least: youth, slimness, defined boobs and bum, long legs in relation to body, toned limbs, clear skin, small facial features with big eyes and lips, long thick shiny hair. If I saw a woman with all of these features I would stare. Actually I did in the pub DH and I had lunch in today, our waitress was stunningly beautiful. I laughed when I saw DH looking at her slightly agape, it was total instinct!

I don't understand why it bothers you so much. It's not a feminism issue for you, it seems to be just that the near naked female form offends you, and you are keen to insult the women involved, first calling them 'whores' now claiming that all their perceived beauty is 'false'. It really does seem like jealousy tbh... are you hoping they will employ you instead?

parsnipbob · 26/05/2015 13:41

I don't agree with the OP but yes, I'm sorry, a good body IS subjective.

jugglingmonkey · 26/05/2015 17:13

Another one pissed off that my H&M maternity wear shopping was adorned with 6 bikini clad skinny women. Not what I need or want right now... Will it ever stop?

Tequilashotfor1 · 26/05/2015 18:13

Well you could PM me it. You can't really expect us to agree with you if you won't even tell us what poster it was.
